Hello,
I'd like to add a blog to the website we're developing and I'd like opinions as to the best way to go. We're developing the site using Joomla.
So, should I install something like wordpress, use a seperate third-party site, create an account and link to it (such as blogger.com), or do you know if Joomla has something like this built in that would be more streamlined? What are your opinions and why?
Thanks in advance!
Rachel

Perhaps you would be best off doing what you suggested... creating a blogger account, and then using the wrapper component to have it appear in a frame and customize it to appear cleanly within your site.
There are also Joomla blog components out there you might want to check out.

Alex

If you're going to go with a remotely blog solution, go with wordpress.com. I've been using their service for a few months now, and it's been great. they offer a wide variety of different styles for you to use, anti-spam protection, and many other really cool features. If you want to host it locally, pick up wordpress from www.wordpress.org and install it. You can also find some good skins by simply googling "wordpress themes", or by visiting wordpress.org/extend/themes/ .
Good luck.

I'd have to suggest an integrated LiveJournal... it's a great peice of blogging software and I just love all of the features.

I haven't used Joomla but looking at the demo http://demo.joomla.org it looks like it includes a blog - see links down the left under main menu.
Don't know if it's any good or not

Yes, you can add content items to a category and have it automatically display those items, according to your parameters, by date.... so yes, it is a blog. Technically, all content management systems are "blog systems" I suppose.
I love Joomla. And with enough experience with it, you can obviously customize it to look just like anything, and do just about anything.
Joomla always gets my vote. I implement it for my clients and strip out the extra modules and other DB intensive stuff sometimes-- just so that they can use the admin pages to manage their content.... all preformated to their pre-specified desire.
Joomla = Booya!

Thanks so much for all the replies! I'll definitelylook into these options. I appreciate your help.
I didn't realize that Wordpress would host a remote blog (ie one not hosted on my site) - I'll look into that. I also like the idea that Joomla has blogging tools as well - simplicity is always good and a single tool makes that appealing. The integrated LiveJournal sounds intriguing as well. I'm not familiar with that at all.

I wouldn't touch freewebs. No way.
Wordpress is good. You'll be making a good decision if you go with it.
