I just got my Reseller Account Package Details from my new web host with my shining new name server info too!
Should I wait for 2-3 days before I change the nameserver records at my registrar to these shining new nameservers? I am not sure if a new nameserver offered by a web host also needs time to propagate through the internet?

Hi,
You should have received information from your host in the format:
DNS Record: ns1.yourdomain.com
IP Address: 12.34.56.78
DNS Record ns2.yourdomain.com
IP Address 12.34.56.89
You can register this information with your registrar immediately. It normally takes approximately 24 hours for your nameservers to propagate fully.

Thanks Matt!
So since i just received (an hour ago) my nameserver info from my webhost, i should wait for 24 hours for the changes they made to their server to propagate first ????
OR
should i just hop over to my registrar RIGHT NOW and proceed to changed my nameserver info ????
Am a lil confused so am double checking.

72 hours if you want it to propogate all around the world :P
Sometimes even more if you catch a bad break time wise...
edit: just read the last post. Go to your registrar and change your information now :)

Chang,
All a host does is assign the IPs to your account and maybe configure the DNS of your main domain locally. The nameservers don't actually exist until you register them at your registrar. You should do this immediately.
Once they are registered you need to modify the nameserver record of your domain so it's pointing to the new nameservers. Then your site will be down for approximately 24 hours while all the ISPs dump their dns cache and load the new one that comes out at every update.
So downtime due to dns proagation just depends on how quickly and how often your ISP will load a new dns update.

Ok... thanks a mill for your super quick replies, guys !!!!
Am doing that just now.
Could either of you, or someone else, explain for the benefit of newbies like me what really happens (step by step).
I book a domain name www.mydomain.com on 1st of April. The nameservers are the default registrar's nameservers till now.
I then book a reseller package with a web host on 1st of May. This webhost provides me with my personal nameservers.
My new nameservers are linked to my webhost's nameserves i think (am i right?). So does it mean that when my webhost issues me nameservers (an hour ago), i do not have to wait for these new nameservers which my webhost gave me to propagate within 24 hours throughout the internet?
How does my registrar's registry database know the existense of my new nameservers and automatically allocate IPs to it (am using 000domains.com - they allocate IPs to new nameservers automatically) unless i wait for them to propagate within the first 24 hours (as you suggested)?
Thanks. Would be a great help if one of the experts out here highlighted the path how these nameservers work ie. how they are updated and propagated through the internet.
Thanks again so much.

Maybe for a domain, not for nameservers :)
I personally have never seen nameservers that have taken longer than 24 hours to propagate - you can always try pointing a few domains to them to see if they're recognised.
Changing nameservers will need from 1 to 2 days to propagate.
Just schedule transfering your old websites in this interval.
