I've used two reseller hosts and websites are down frequently on both. (Of course, tech support always has a good excuse.) It just occurred to me that maybe the problem is with Windows servers? I build websites in ASP so I use Windows servers. Are Linux servers more reliable? If so, I'll dust off the PHP book. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Gary

Windows has always had an unreliable reputation. However, recent releases of their server OS software has seemed to battle their reputation, and many claim Windows is just as stable as any Linux software.
However, in my personal opinion, in terms of stability, Linux is the way to go. It's built for stability and trusted by thousands of web hosts.

I like windows, I have a windows server with a IIS process that has over 22 days uptime, and this is a shared server :D

Yeah... I think the both OS is good if you known how to manage it.

Agreed. I would say reliability is based much more on administration (or lack thereof) rather than the OS. Give a pure Linux techie a Windows server to administer, and vice versa, and you will probably see 2 unreliable servers.

In my opinion Linux hosting software is only marginally more stable than Windows hosting software. FreeBSD is the way to go if you're looking for the absolute most stable hosting environment.
