I bid on hindutemples.com for the last 3 days since the auction began at snapnames.com.

I put my max bid at $105,.

Auction ends in less than 3 hrs from now.Just found out that "vaxis' is oubidding me.I am still being outbid -- even after increasing my max bid to $250.

Did a google search on Vaxis and found this

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=25231

I wanted this domain bad.I simply cannot afford to go more than $250.

I should have gone to the person who owned this domain and purchased from him directly instead of waiting to be acutioned off in snapnames.

Your "urgent" opinion is very much appreciated.

thanks

I bid $300 and still got outbid.

I think i will stop and forget about it.

It was just a great .com name.

Your bidding strategy just was outright wrong. Do you care for being ALWAYS the high bidder and to be outbid the last second? Or to watch the auction closely and bid the last second the maximum you can afford?

I think you need some eBay 'practice'. :)

The current bid is at $802 with 22 minutes left.(and the only reason why vaxis put 802$ was that someone bid 700 something for it)
this should be intresting to watch and the end-result seems to be exciting.!!

any FINAL suggestions?

thanks

any FINAL suggestions?

What exactly are you looking for now? The current bid is 800+, you were prepared to pay 250 max... What do you want from us NOW? :)

We get it. HE wants the name, you don't.

I recently wanted a name that went over what I was willing to spend. In the last ten minutes it went from $650 to the final price of $5,080 where it sold.

It became another of those wonderful search portals....lost forever.

I really should have gotten it from the person who still owned the domain.

update: benfranklin and vaxis are outbidding each other like crazy and i bet snapnames i sitting back and enjoying the fun --- while they increase the bid deadline by 5 minutes for the 5 th time!

Next post will be the final results of this "game"!!

Vaxis is one of the big players buying names at snapnames. At my peak I was bidding on between 1-10 names per day. Vaxis was pretty much competition on every domain. There were always between 1 and 40 other bidders for each domain. I won a few auctions against him. The trick was to find a name that only you and him were bidding on. He would be so busy bidding on more desireable names that he wouldn't have time to bid a name with only 1 other bidder :)

Last time i say vaxis and benfranklin were competing against each other the price then was $4,000.

How could the both of you afford such high prices like $4,000 -- $5,000 and that too for so many domains.???

The domain i was intrested in hindutemples.com ended up being a search portal.

I just dont get it.. does the domain owner really expect people to type the domain such as hindutemples.com and then search for something not even related to hindutemples.

what an absolute waste of a wonderful domain.

People are making millions out of using premium domains to feed sponsored listings and searches. They are also spending millions... They have more money than you ;)

vaxis, saggydimes, benfranklin, bonkers...

If you see any of them, you'll likely be paying a premium. Nothing like looking at the other bidders and seeing them as your only competition. The $60 turns into several hundred and, usually, you'll lose out anyway (or at least I do).

All in all, its a pretty fair process. The person that ultimately wants or can afford the domain most wins. It stinks to be a small timer like myself, but i still find a domain name here or there worth the price.

I have gotten a few nice bargains at TDNAM.com. My thinking is there aren't as many people with automated searches going on over there (and GoDaddy seems to try and stifle such efforts with their design and unwillingness to release a drop list with all domains in a resonable format). I've actually been thinking of publishing a unified list of predrops at TDNAM, Enom, Namewinner, Snapnames, and the real drop list. If anyone wants to come over and do some free babysitting for my 2 1/2 year old and 9 month old, I'll put some effort towards that. <wink>

People with real businesses on the web pay people like Google and Yahoo for each visitor they send to their sites. These real businesses even bid for how much the are willing to pay for each vistor in order to get top of the list. Google/Yahoo in turn share that revenue with Pay Per Click parking services, who in turn share their revenue with domain owners who display those (portal) links of the PPC parking services on their sites. The domain owner is probably getting something like 25% of what the real business is paying. It's big business, if you have many visitors to your website.

I agree, it's sad to see so many great names gobbled-up for this reason. It seems to me that whenever I type in a name out of my head, it invariably goes to one of these parking pages. Not really surprising, since I'm looking for potential parking domains myself when I do this. They do provide a service for the surfer, since usually (but not always) they will provide links to the kind of real business they are looking to connect with.
