Hi all

Are there any fellow WHTers who are Rackshack.net customers who use their backup services? If so, would appreciate it if they could share their experience, good or bad.

Alternatively, if any Rackshack.net customers use non-RS means to backup and achieve good results, any pointers in this regard would be most welcome.

Thanks!

I wasn't aware that they had backup services, do you have any more information on this?

Pretty hard to get 99.9% reliable backup solution when you involve in backing up 20gb data daily. But you do can give yourself a try with some company that specialise in providing backup solution.

This is the best solution as if you buy 2 boxes the traffic from both counts tword your monthly limit.. 2 HD's is the way to go,,

Currently using rsync via cron to backup to a second hard drive, but I would prefer to have a backup not on the same server.

The 20 GB I forsee backing up *weekly* (not daily) is not a big problem since I have 600 GB of transfer montly, but I am not aware of any affordable remote backup service which would fit the bill.

Still seems like it would be safer to backup to a different server. For example, what happens if the box gets hacked? It might take a long time to get back into the server to get to the data. Not to mention that if the box was hacked or had a major crash and needed to be restored, it is possible that both hard drives could be wiped in the process. Or what if the wrong server was accidentally restored.

lol

not unless RS pulls a serverhost, *****, or dialtone and wipes out both drives by accident!

Actually having two servers on the same network and transfering data to and from them, should not be classified as data transfer as its internal. So buying two servers and using for that cause should be fine.

An other method would be to have a second nic card added to the main server and ask to see if they would add an rj45 cable from the second nic from the first server into the second server :D

my 0.2 cents.

You do realize we are talking about RS here right?
