Does anyone know where I can check how many domain names a company serves on their nameservers?

About a year ago, http://www.domainwatch.com, provided this information, however they seem to be non-functioning now.

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure that they didn't get that info from the hosts themselves sometimes? I don't see how they could have been able to tell how many domains were hosted otherwise.

I believe the information was not all that accurate.

Actually, the information was dead-on perfectly accurate. They got the information from the InterNIC database at that time. However, when the government lifted Network Solutions' monopoly and opened it up to other domain registrars, NSI had to re-do parts of their system to allow the other registrars to directly input the domain registrations. During that process, they changed the way they provided access to the raw database (and also changed the criteria on who could get the access), and that's when Domain Watch stopped being able to get the information.

I heard that they were trying to fix the system and find another way, but since it's been well over a year (closer to a year and a half now, actually), I'm guessing they just gave up. It's too bad, too - the info that they provided was very useful.

That's pretty disappointing, because it would have been very useful...

It seemed very accurate to me, unfortunately it did not list the domains on our nameservers, so I could not check how accurate it was, but I know these figures changed every day.

It was nice to see how all the web hosts were doing :)

If I remember correctly... Domainwatch was purchased by Tucows/OpenSRS. They said they were going to get it working again months ago but I guess OpenSRS got in the way...

Booksoft: FORTUNATELY it did not list domain names hosted on some server. That's a matter of confidentiality. There's absolutely no reason to let public know what sites someone hosts.

Astra4,

In my last post I actually meant the NUMBER of domains on the nameservers. It would of course not be good thing to list the domains, as some companies would abuse this information.
