Has anyone here been able to obtain an expired domain which is registered with Network Solutions?
I contacted them last week asking them to release a domain which has been expired FOR OVER A YEAR. They replied with the standard "we release domains when in batches".
Basically, I don't see them ever releasing the domain that I want.. it'll just sit in their whois databases forever.

To my total amazement, Expirefish.com hooked a name for me last week that had expired in Nov. '01 but had not been previously released. You might give them a look.

Since ICANN has no current policy on the dropping of expired domain names, there really is nothing you can do to force NetSol to drop the name.
If you contact the old owners, they can probably still renew the domain and sell it to you though...

I have try using snapnames.com but not successful.
It has been about a year since. I think my one year of monitoring by them will be expiring soon. They have send email to me that the info of the registrant being modified. I don't understand why the registrant info has been modified and was unable to snap it.

I also got one of that bunch of names who expired in nov and netsol dropped them last week.
To my suprise I managed to get it with nicgenie.com (a pretty crappy service, if you look at their website), even if someone tried to to get it with snapnames as well. On the other hand I tried to get another one with snapnames, but i didn't succeed...
Several expired netsol domains I watched have dropped after half a year...maybe netsol is coming back to a certain rule....who knows!
I am wondering, which one did you get John?

There is a domain I have been waiting for that has been expired for 16 months now. It is just a crazy situation. You would think it is in their interest to let the domains expire so they can get paid for them again.

Ah, except that when they kick off the WLS, this domain will bring them $35, not $6...

... of the net... Yeah they have 4 and more years expired domains and don't release them. Well they think they OWN the net... sad to say that they are doing a good job so far in making it look like they do
They sell the domains via a few domain selling sites they own... it is a rip off... like all they do!

You would think that any first year economist could tell you what should be done, one company that manages the domain name systems (like NS do) that should be regulated and then prevent them from actually selling domains themselves and the rest of the companies competing on selling the domains to the public. It seems pretty obvious what should be done to sort out the mess.

Did you say you will register the domain with them if they release the domain now?
You may get it if you do.

I have a domain with NSI that has been expired for like a year, they still haven't released it.

I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess. I tried everything to get this one domain... started working on it two months before it expired. I tried emailing and calling the domain holder (phone & email account disconnected). I even wrote this nice letter via snail mail, but no response. Then, when it expired, I wrote Network solutions at least three emails. I only got back corporate boilerplate as a response.
But last month, out of the blue, seven months after it expired, I was able to grab it! Made my day! ;)
I think everyone should have a grace period so they don't lose their domain name. But after sixty days, if the person hasn't responded to the emails and there is no site using the domain name, then I think it's time to release the name. These names are a limited resource. It's unfair to have one company have so much control over the domain market. I bet if we knew how corrupt the system is, we would all cringe.
