View Full Version : IE Opens favorites in another window - OH PLEASE HELP

I use IE 5.x and often have more than one window open showing different pages. Often (but not always) when I click on a "Favorites link" in window #1, instead of opening the web page in that window, IE jumps to another window to open that page.

As you can see from the subject, it's driving me crazy!! It's a desperate cry for help. Please make the evil program behave.

It's almost like I shift clicked on a link (to open a new window) but I'm jumping to another window rather than opeing a new one. Obviously this doesn't happen when I just have one window with IE running

Can anyone please tell me how to prevent this?

Is this happening from links in the Favorites menu itself?

Allow me to clarify. No, it happens from the favorites MENU at the top. I don't have the list of favorites open on the left side of my screen.

I could kick myself for forgetting to mention this.

It may occur if an open window is completing loading and grabs focus; though this coincidence should be infrequent.

It may also occur with pages with framebuster scripting -- but only in some cases, depending upon how it is implemented.

It may also occur if you have IE set to check for a new version of pages every time a page is visited, as there is a minor bug in this (in IE5.0 -- not sure on IE 5.5).

Other than that, I have not seen this on links direct from the pulldown Favorites menu.

I have likewise heard that there is a window focus problem on Mac's with IE that could well invoke this behavior; but have not been able to account it here as yet.

And finally, in 5.0, if you have IE set to run in a separate process, this has been reported.

Beyond that, I am something at a loss. Perhaps others could be more helpful in this?
