Hello,

I want to convert a Raq3 with Raq550 software to a Qube3 server.

I followed the steps mentioned in this forum (thanks to all the members!!), downgraded the ROM to 4.3.38 and used the Qube3 4010 EOL ISO package from depopo.net.

But unfortunately after that I was not able to connect to the Qube3 via telnet. (of course I enabled it in the web frontend).

I tried to connect with PUTTY and telnet in a DOS box. No success. Pinging the server is possible, any firewall is disabled and I even got some kind of connection but no prompt appeared. (All worked with the Raq550 Software before).

I'm not that familiar with linux or the cobalt servers, therefore I'm not sure if I missed something.

Some strange things I've seen during the restore process:

The restore process took relatively long.
The is no output at the serial console during booting after restore.
It sometimes showed (for 10-20 minutes) the message that it checks the disks during booting.
The message RAID o.k. appeared during boot up process.
There a two 80G drives (one jumpered as slave) inside the Raq3 but the Raq has only one IDE interface.

Should I have used the Qube3 4100 EOL ISO-Image for RAID? (But I do not want to use RAID, I want to use the second drive as additioinal disc space) or do I have to disconnect the second drive during the restore process? The second drive worked fine with Raq550 software before.

During restore I got some messages that the MD5-Sum is not correct for several packages. Is my ISO Image corrupt or is it 'normal'.
Any help is welcome.

Best regards
Martin

A RAQ3 and a Qube3 are two totally different pieces of hardware. Why would you want to use the BIOS for one in the other? I'm not surprised that things aren't working properly.

I've heard of using a Qube as a RaQ, but never the other way around! At any rate, double-check to be sure that shell access is enabled via the GUI, and also that no firewall rules are in place to block access.

It sounds as if you may have a bad install... no guarantee a Qube image will restore on a RaQ anyhow, but you might want to give it another shot. If it still does not work, try installing a RaQ image on it to verify that all is functioning corretly. If that works, then your problem is either in the restore CD, or that the RaQ just doesn't want to be a Qube.

RaQ 3/4 and Qube 3 are virtually identical hardware. Some small differences are there, but not enough to cause problems. I run a few RaQs with Qube 3 payload on them for some small businesses; they like the Qube functionality and the RaQ form factor.

If you do not want RAID, use the Qube 3 "Business" model OSRCD. You should not need to disconnect the second HD, but you may want to just as a precaution. Make sure you're leaving the primary HD connected (front right corner as you look at the RaQ's bezel).

To turn on your serial console, hold in the password reset switch (small hole on the back near the power switch) with a paper clip while powering up. LCD should tell you the state of the console. Repeat as necessary to get your desired result. Also make sure the terminal program you're connecting with is set to 115200 N-8-1.

Access over the serial interface worked fine. After installing an SSH package erverything is o.k; I can access my raq-qube via SSH. But telnet is still not working - not that important.....
I use the second drive as an windows share. Works fine.

Is telnet enabled in the UI? Anyway, if SSH is working, that's all you should be using anyway. Telnet is a plain text protocol and very insecure.

Agreed - telnet is something to stay away from unless absolutely necessary for some reason. And then, please make sure you are at least using strong passwords.
