I did have some support issues with them, including email problems that was caused by their spam assassin which was not rectified forl 2 weeks, that is, I could not receive mail for that amount of time.
Otherwise, their servers are highly reliable.
beerblast 05-02-2002, 07:10 PM I switched to Venture's Online from Aletia.
Like I stated once before it's like switching
from a Volkswagen to a Cadillac.
I haven't had one single problem at all.
Fast servers, and a fast support team.
I have had no problems with my email.
Compare the different attitudes in the
support forums.

Sesran 05-03-2002, 01:31 AM Chuck Fox Rules......
(VO Support GOD)
Chang Lee 05-03-2002, 06:55 AM Yup... you're right !!! I'd have to fully agree !!!
Chuck Fox is one of the best guys i've come across in giving support !!!!
I had the pleasure of working on a huge project with him before (a year and a half ago) and even then he was a very very helpful and patient guy.
What i appreciate greatly about Chuck is that he never gives up and goes out of his way to offer support. At times i would wonder if he ever slept !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wish the hosting industry had more dedicated support people like him! it would be such a better more reputable industry !!!!!
GeeksRUs 05-03-2002, 08:56 AM My recommendation would be to go somewhere else. I know, once again, that everybody on the VO train will jump on me for saying it, but I'm entitled to my opinion, too. And that opinion is based on what has happened over the past several weeks. There isn't any doubt in my mind that VO can provide good service when it suits them. But lately, they are not addressing things that should be addressed. Their spam problems, which are still around, and their habit of making off the cuff remarks without thinking about what they're saying. Yesterday's remarks by Bailey (a mod at their forums) is a great example of that, for those who saw it before she deleted the entire thread.
Their unwillingness to offer information when asked is disturbing, and not just in relation to the questions I've asked before about what they intend to do about their spam problem. Someone asked a question about who the principals are at VO. One answer, from VO: There are four owners. The information is public if VO has actually filed corporate paperwork. Why not just answer the question? I posted to that thread in response to Bailey's remarks in it, and today I find that my PM functions are disabled. I guess everything is rosy as long as you never, ever question them about anything. I posted a suggestion today that they turn my PMs back on. Somehow I think that message will be deleted, too.
My verdict: never choose them. It wouldn't matter to me if I was on a server, by myself, with 100% uptime always, and hosted for free. The way they treat people is not the way decent companies treat people, even when they disagree.
tensixteen64 05-03-2002, 09:13 AM Hi,
I am hosted at Insider Hosting (http://www.insiderhosting.com/) which is a reseller for Ventures Online. I just moved 3 domains there from Aletia about 2 weeks ago. I am in the process of moving the final domain from Aletia, yay!
I have posted about them before, and I will continue to post good things about IH. Before I even signed up I had a ton of questions. I spent over an hour on ICQ with one of the support techs. He answered every one of my questions. And if he didn't know the answer, he found out. Emails to me if there was a problem with the machine, never a problem I saw as they fixed it before I could even read the email.
The move from Aletia to IH is like a dream, I am paying for a host which is hosting AND customer support. I hope that I'm not here in a year or even in 6 months complaining about them, but I really don't think I will be. The best part is that I have 2 domains at half the rate Aletia was giving me and the other 2 at only a dollar more, than Aletia. While, you get what you pay for, IH has given me my money worth and I haven't even gotten all the domains resolved yet!

michaeln 05-03-2002, 09:14 AM Geek,
Why beat a dead horse. You have made your point many times on this forum. Why don't you move on with your life. The way you carry on about VO. Yes I know. You feel everyone has a right to know Yadda Yadda. Hrmm consider this. If you went on like this about every company you have done business with which ended up below par I will wager that you would have no time to eat and sleep for warning people about these various companies.
GeeksRUs 05-03-2002, 09:27 AM michaeln, thanks for supporting my thesis.
The guy asked for opinions, and I'm giving one. If you don't want to read what I write, then pass it by.
tensixteen64 05-03-2002, 09:42 AM Geeks,
Where are you hosted?
Sara
michaeln 05-03-2002, 12:52 PM Geeks, I am just tired of this story. I can almost quote your story word for word without even looking at the screen. Sometimes things just get old.
Also I didn't see where the anyone in this thread asked for an opinion. Rather he made a statement. After reading this forum he chose them. The he stated that he would fill us all in on how it goes. So it seems more like you once again offered your opinion without anyone asking.
Michael

They aren't just disabled for you, but for everyone else as well. As for the owners of VO, this is public information. Almost everyone I know who uses VO knows who they are.. this isn't really top secret information.
Good luck jacon4, I'm sure you will find their services are quite reliable and friendly. :)
Skeptical 05-04-2002, 04:53 AM While VO's support has been great, I do have a couple of gripes:
1) I had hosted a spammer unknowingly on my server. VO never contacted me when they received notices about it. Instead they just went in and terminated the account. That part I don't mind. The thing that bothered me was that afterwards they still didn't tell me about it. It wasn't till I emailed them about a mysterious "account terminated" message I got from Cpanel that they told me about it. Had I not known about it I would have kept on charging that client and maybe even got hit with a nasty chargeback later.
2) When I run into problems that VO end up fixing for me, I always ask what the exact commands were that they used to fix it. Almost all of the time they would not tell me. Also they erase their history after they finish fixing things so I can't look back to see what kinds of stuff were done.
baileysemt123 05-13-2002, 11:38 PM Skeptical>
As for #2, the histories are not erased, however sometimes if the techs are busy and they might not logout, thereby timing out though. When that happens the history is not logged.
HTH! :)

I'm prefectly aware that the owner information is not secret. Perhaps you could be bothered to stop rolling your eyes for a moment and get the point here. The person asking the question was not a VO customer. Obviously he did not know who the owners were, or he wouldn't have bothered to ask. VO's response via Paul treated it like some huge secret that shouldn't be told to anyone - despite the fact that it is public information. Get me now? The only impression that gives is that you have something to hide. Given the other things that have come about lately relative to VO, less and less surprises me at all about this company. I'm very satisfied that I moved. More satisfied that I can recommend against them as a choice when people ask. You VO diehard fans can continue on. I'm finished with these threads and with anything involving VO.
michaeln 05-15-2002, 08:59 AM Geeks,
Once again. No one even asked who the owners are. You said in your last post that it was asked by someone that was NOT a customer of VO. That is strange because going back to look I found to things. First, no one asked. Second. Everyone that posted before you, including the first post in the thread, IS and WAS a VO customer. If you go back and read the first post again you will see that they asked 0 that is zero questions. They simply stated that they had ALREADY signed up with VO because of things they had read in this thread before and that they would let everyone here know how it goes in a few months.
Thus everything you said was offered info from you. None of it was asked for. If you want to be against VO so why don't you go jump on the VO treated Daniel wrongly thread or something.
Regards,
Michael
