View Full Version : Benefit of Extra IP Addresses?

I'm researching reseller hosting plans and I have a question about IP addresses. How important is it to purchase a reseller plan which offers multiple IP addresses? What is the benefit of having more than one?

I've really been comparing HostGator, Site5 and EliteHosts. HostGator doesn't list multiple IP addresses, Site5 says you get 3 individual IP Addresses and EliteHosts has 2 with its plan.

I would really appreciate any advice I can here on the importance of multiple IP addresses.

Thanks.

It's more for your clients, than yourself. It allows you to have SSL certs/anonymous FTP.

Each SSL needs it's own unique IP address.

Some times it may be cheaper to buy the dedicated IP seperate from the plan when you need one.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound like something that's going to be that important for me.

If you are planning on being a serious reseller, then you will want to provide your clients with dedicated IP addresses for their SSL certificates.

I'd say the big things are being able to offer SSL, dedicated IP's and the fact you can spread your clients over multiple ip's. So say one of the sites you host is getting attacked your host can just make so that IP is not accessible while most of your clients continue to have service no problema dn you don't have to deal with crazy bandwidth bills hopefully.

Dedicated IPs allow resellers to host https:// SSL websites and also allow for another layer of anonymity from their provider host.

how many do you need to be completely anonymous? i heard its two, but with site5 they give you 2 for nameservers and one for the actual account.
