Hey,

I just installed RedHat 7.2, and ran the up2date feature via gui. And well.. I was a bit overwhelmed. There are like.. 200 packages that 'needed' updating. Well, I updated a few things I knew about like the kernel, apache, php, perl, ssh, and mod_gzip. Well. Besides those like six or seven, I need to know what other packages I should install, and if it would be safe to install all of them. The only reason I am worried about installing them, is that it may cause conflicts with cpanel when I go to install it, or opens up security holes. I just need to know your opinions, ideas on this.

Also, besides all the package updates. After linux 7.2 is installed, should cpanel/whm be installed directly after install of OS, or after install of OS, and running up2date.

Thanks.

you can install cpanel on the vanila install of redhat 7.2 and it provides features to perform software updates (and will do so automaticly).

However as habbit i tend to run up2date on my redhat servers before i install cpanel - so it really comes down to what you want to do.

Also note that upgrading the kernel to a 2.4.15+ version provides far greater system performance. (from the old 2.4.9-XX class rh 7.2 uses)

Ok, Thank you. When you run up2date, do you just install all the packages it offers? Or do your narrow it down to a select few? Thanks for the help.
