OK, on account of the fact that I'm GOING to quit smoking* for the very first time....I wondered if I'm the only one left who has waited this long?

I guess because hosting culture is full of YOUNG people, that smoking is not even a contemporary vice around here.

Alcohol and cigarettes are my last two vices, so 2001 is definitely going to be a HEALTHY year.

Anybody else just quit? or trying?

When you compare the cost of smokes to hosting plans....well

Any words of support chaps and chappettes?

You must try the fine Moldavian product, No-Mo-Smoke. These look just like cigarettes; but they are made exclusively with healthy, safe, environmentally-friendly goat hair... designed to ease you away slowly from your terrible addiction to the demon nicotine.

I have never understood why people smoke.
Yes, I do not smoke. Though I do drink.

No doubt you can direct me to the point of sale, etLux?

I better get some for Chicken too, by the looks of things...!

This may be the answer I've been looking for.... I've always loved goats, in fact I nearly chose to have a goat as a companion, but at the last minute settled for a cocker spaniel.....

Well I'm now absolutely sure that the God's have deemed this to be my year of health, the very first...heh heh

I just rec'd some SPAM to the email address that is used exclusively for a certain hosting directory's special offer section, and as if by divine intervention, the subject matter combined my love of tinkering with the stock market with my new health drive...

I never smoked. I quit drinking (mostly) a long time ago.
I am still old, fat, and bald.

This is indeed strange.

I think you should not have quite drinking.

You would surely still be old, fat, and bald -- but you would not care.

Heyyyyy I will support ya alllll the way!! Here is my story:
I had tried on and off for years to quit and never have UNTIL I went into the hospital on Oct.11th
I had a very serious surgery, was in hospital for 2 weeks or more. I realized while being in there, that I should go ahead and try to QUIT...because I had already been 2 weeks with no cigs.....sooooo I did just that.
I cant really say what happened...but I came home from the hospital...NOT EVEN WANTING a smoke?!
If you knew me you would understand that statement!
VERY HEAVY smoker...Ive thought very little of smoking and now it has been 3 months.........:D
If you want a forum for this tell me and I will open one up at HostCaters? I have a ubb thats not being used, installed there! Drop me an email

Well, Martie...I do hope your surgery concluded successfully, though I'm not sure I'm ready to volunteer to fall under the scalpel yet.

Setting fire to dried leaves and inhaling the dense smoke for pleasure, with tobacco, not other more palliative herbs, does seem to be the act of an imbecile.

I will email you if you think that a NN* group forum will assist my quest for health. I've never tried, so I don't know how hard it will be to quit.

I do not find drinking attractive, nor smoking. I can not smoke or be around people that are because of the open nerves in my eye. I guess i am a very big Geek.

Never smoked... I mean..., that's right, I never smoked! :D

Drank enough to make up for it though?

Ooh yeah, I've decided to amend my original post and delete alcohol from my list of remaining vice's.

I intend to go to the grave with a bottle of the very finest old single malt scotch whisky my fellow countrymen can distill.

Smoking's still on the outer though.

Ahhh... smoking.

Well, I smoked for 15 years, tried to quit numerous times, went through bouts of intense self-loathing for not having the will power, realized that I actually enjoyed smoking and finally quit two years ago when I realized that I had smoked for half my life.

I had to rely on a pharmaceutical crutch (Zyban) to quit, but with drugs pounding through my veins, quitting was actually much, much easier than through cold turkey, patch, gum (ugh) or threats of bodily harm from a large, "helpful" friend.

I don't want to sound like a poster boy for the glorious of modern science (and those *******s at GlaxoWellcome) but Zyban worked.

Good luck, and feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or need a pep talk.

Congrats on quitting. I've had a few friends that went into it and it's basically impossible to get anyone to stop if they arn't willing to. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do (I know somewhat about what you're going through because I walked through a vegas casino and had withdrawals by the time I got outside). Stick with it and no matter how much you want one, just remember that every time you inhale one of those long white sticks, your lungs are falling off the end.

haha.. yea.. all the thinking is the thing that causes the confusion :) Coz the more I think of it. The more I am confused because I dunno why I am confused. So you see the reason of my confusion? :(

QUIT LIGHTING YOURSELVES ON FIRE! You don't smoke if you're not ablaze! It's the CIGARETTE that smokes. All you're doing is inhaling.
