View Full Version : Aussies going to hostingcon
Aussie Bob 01-18-2006, 12:03 AM . . . Hosting Con is the perfect excuse for a business expenses trip to Vegas!
Im actually currently in Australia so my flight to Vegas is going to cost £1200+ ... im still going for sure!
I'm going too! Making plans now. The airfare's costing around AUS$2300.00 return from Vegas. Will be a blast! I'm looking forward to catching up with a lot of folks, and getting to see some of America at the same time.
See you folks there! :gthumb:
UH-Matt 01-18-2006, 12:20 AM Woo! Will be great to meet you Aussie Bob.
Know any good websites for air fares from Australia? Im currently finding travel.com.au the cheapest (ish).
Aussie Bob 01-18-2006, 07:09 PM I've just started looking into the flight costs. I went to www.flightcentre.com.au for the pricing. There could be others.

I'm looking at Qantas, Brisbane to Vegas for $2988 return (http://wftc3.e-travel.com/pl/QFinternational/en/FlexPricerAvailabilityServlet?SITE=QFI&PRICING_TYPE=I&DATE_RANGE_QUALIFIER_1=C&DATE_RANGE_VALUE_1=0&DATE_RANGE_QUALIFIER_2=C&DATE_RANGE_VALUE_2=0&DISPLAY_TYPE=1&LANGUAGE=GB&ARRANGE_BY=E&CUSTOMER_TYPE=P&TRIP_TYPE=R&B_LOCATION_1=BNE&E_LOCATION_1=LAS&B_LOCATION_2=LAS&E_LOCATION_2=BNE&B_DATE_1=200607150000&B_DATE_2=200607310000&TRAVELLER_TYPE_1=ADT&PAGE_FROM=/regions/do/dyn/QuickSearch&COMMERCIAL_FARE_FAMILY_1=AUINTECO). That's including "charges/taxes" too.
UH-Matt 01-18-2006, 10:45 PM Travel.com.au has those same flights for you with Qantas for $2829.42 inc taxes/charges.
Gives you a little more  money
Aussie Bob 01-18-2006, 10:54 PM Yep, sounds good. :D
One stop in LA too, although I might fly return from LA, as I want to hang out in LA for a week or so.
CD Burnt 01-18-2006, 10:58 PM don't forget to put aside a little cash for bail money. :flamethr:

See ya there Bob! (Vegas, may go to LA as well)
Rochen 01-20-2006, 01:22 PM Will be good to have you there this year, Bob. At least you will help us boost the non-US demographics :D
Hey Matt, we need to actually catch up this year. Seemed we kind of missed each other last year :crap:
Any idea when conference registration opens? I am wanting to book our flights as soon as possible, but I don't want to do that until everything surrounding the conference is fully confirmed.
I am considering just going for exhibit hall only passes this year. Most of the benefit we gained from HostingCon occurred at dinner etc. outside of the actual conference. In my opinion most of the conference sessions were a waste of time, as they didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. The keynotes were interesting though and the exhibit hall only pass seems to get you into those anyway.

Be careful, you might want to stay in LA after the visit ;) Then we'll get the whole family here soon enough. Since I am part aussie too, figured I'd post here ;)

They were actually pretty good last year. Almost 15% from outside the US.

Probably in February. We're doing a little re-arranging on the backend to make things easier on the conference staff for managing the registrations. We're also adding some more features and functionality for attendees this year to the website. Here are some things we're thinking of:
* Ability to change address/contact info (so that exhibitors you swipe your badge with have the correct info)
* Ability to save notes on things like exhibitors and conference sessions, which you can then print out to take with you. In other words, as you're surfing through the site you might come across an exhibitor or session you want to make notes about, remind yourself to ask something, etc. You can jot it into a notes field on the page and then go to your main account screen and get a page with all those notes on it so you can print it out.
* Possibly the ability to do some type of pre-conference contact with exhibitors and possibly other attendees. There would be an opt-in capability to make yourself "available" for other attendees to contact. This would allow you to set up meetings before you even arrive.

We offer the exhibit hall only passes because some people just want to come and network and hit the exhibit hall and such. Some people want to do the full conference. We're trying to give everyone options that fit their needs.
I will say that we're making a concerted effort to make sure that our conference program has even better content this year. I think you'll see as we start to get our session information up on the site that the program is a little different this year.

We'll see if LA can handle Aussie Bob! :auflag:
Remember my office setup with the ocean views too. :D
Looking forward to catching up with you all, and seeing Vegas and LA. It'll be fun!
Aussie Bob 01-20-2006, 09:52 PM Bob, glad to hear you're coming. Looking forward to meeting you! :)
You could set me up as an exhibit. For $20.00, you can meet, greet or punch Aussie Bob. For an extra $50.00, you can use a stick! :eek2:
I'm sure you'd get some interest, either way. :D

What's an extra $100 buy? ;)

lol, not what you're thinking! :D
I think there's something here - beatupbob.com! The more you pay, the more I get beaten up. We'd video it of course, and sell advertising blocks as a variant of the pixel ad sites. :D

Yep for sure.

Exactly what we are going to do. We just want to meet up with everyone again and arent really up for all the lectures.
Techark 01-21-2006, 03:13 AM I'll be there, flying over from Brisbane.
Not sure if I will be going to the show first then to my place in Arkansas and to Atlanta to visit my servers or vice a versa and hit the show on the way out of the states yet.
UH-Matt 01-21-2006, 03:22 AM Just to clarify... im not an Aussie... simply living the life style ;)
Aussie Bob 01-21-2006, 03:53 AM I'll be there, flying over from Brisbane.
It'll be great to catch up, in Vegas. :)
Techark 01-21-2006, 05:28 AM Yeah looking forward to it. After the show you can catch me at the BJ tables. :-)
UH-Matt I am not an Aussie either but I have lived here most of the time for almost 5 years now so I guess I am an adopted one.
UH-Matt 01-29-2006, 03:57 AM I just booked my flight.
There was a one day "travel expo" at the Melbourne Exhibition centre and I got my return flight to Vegas for a bargain $1567 inc taxes with United Airlines.
Over $600 cheaper than anything else I found, and I can do a stop in LA for a day.
Will be in Vegas from 16th to 21st, so see ya'll there! :)

Good pricing there Matt!
I'll be booking the plane ticket this week. Probably flying with Qantas. :)
UH-Matt 01-29-2006, 09:58 PM The irony is I also need to get 2 tickets for UH people from the UK to go to Vegas... their tickets are now going to cost more than mine ;)
