View Full Version : Site Maintenance Fees

Hi everyone

How do you guys charge site maintenance fees? I've been thinking about this one, and I can either charge by the hour, monthly package or even kilobytes.

Charging by the hour, say $50 - $75/ hr. Of course, the invoice will have a detailed description of the work done. So, if the work was completed within 15 mins, then the invoice will be for the amount of 1/4 of the hourly charge.

But, that's another question I have...if you charge by the hour, what reasons does a customer have NOT to suspect that you're exaggerating the amount of work done?

A monthly package would have something like 3 hours of credit for $75 and so on.

But again, I'd like to know how everyone else handles this issue. Thanks for your help!

Cheers

:caflag:That's actually precisely what we do, charge as billed work at teh normal hourly rate, or allow customers to purchase a block of hours at a reduced rate, basically to have a Webmaster on call a few hours every month. It's a good system, because it gives you a steady stream of income, and in return, it helps guarantee you'll remain in business and can attend to their needs more quickly and efficiently. Everyone wins in the end.

The trust issue is probably the biggest one, and it is just that, trust. Why would someone believe you're not exaggerating an invoice? Because you've built up a trusting relationship. It's possible to do some informal verification (ask around, see if other Webmasters agree on the time spent to achieve certain tasks), but for the most part, it's trust.

I guess this is probably the best way of doing it for now, huh... :)
