i don't use egold personally but I know some basic knowledge of it. That type of eletronic currency is tied into the price of gold. Supposedly, it is backed by gold that sits in a vault somewhere.

you purchase "pieces" of gold to fund your e-gold account. in essence, you are purchasing the equivalent value of weight in gold with cash, check, and credit card in some cases. The value of your e-gold is dependent on the the value of gold on the world market. gold goes up, your e-gold account worth more.

as far as I know, if you pay or receive payment through e-gold, it is final. its hard to trace and you can't perform a chargeback. all transactions are final. it is considered to be a little shady since a lot of fraudsters deal in e-gold because all sales are final. however, i think many legit people use it as well because it appears to be untraceable with less regulations say bank tranfers and such.

Thank you very much for the input. Does anyone know of any reliable places to buy e-gold where the rates are not horrible :)

Thanks,
Jim

Funding it initially can be complex - you need to go through an exchanger to turn your "currency" into egold - we use omnipay.

You buy @ the prevailing gold buy rate and sell at the sell rate, so there is a potential loss as with any currency conversion.

egolds tranaction fees are low, so its cheaper than stormpay or paypal, but like I say, getting the money in (called an in-exchange) to start with can be cumbersome.

your "balance" in egold is in ounces of gold so the $/£ o whatever equivalent changes in line with the rising/falling gold prices

We take it as a payment method for the business, due to the high cost of international transfers form some countries, and the lack of paypal in many, and tend to "cash out" when we have a few "ounces" and when I think th egold price is on a daily high - it *can* be a little extra by timing the out-exchanges right :D

I've have looked for a paypal alternative for online auctions and the such before, but I wasn't sure about egolds process, so I have a question...

Is it difficult for a potential customer to pay with egold, assuming they don't have an egold account already. Or would the customer just enter their payment info have it converted to egold and put into the sellers account?

Sorry for the hijack, hopefully this helps out though.

There are *plenty* about - as to their trustworthyness - i cant comment.
I know one of our clients uses EMO

Simply put, if they dont already have an egold account, then its a nightmare, as they'll have to open an account, find an exchanger, transfer some money, wait a while, get some egold, take into account the difference between buy rates, sell rates, commissions etc, then pay you.

egold is fine if they already have some, not so simple to just get into using.

I'm using e-gold for personal and business. Funding e-gold is complicated, but here in my country - I have local exchanger. Where I can buy and sell my e-gold at no minimum order to/from local currency.

Besides, paypal is not available in my country.

Here in my country where paypal is not available, people using e-gold. E-gold dont have charge back & e-gold has low transaction fees.

i was wondering about few stuff myself about egold, i wanted to buy something that only accepts egold, ( worths about 90$) and been trying to locate some one that sells egold using a credit card , still couldnt find ! is there any ?
I mean, i know fraud can be scary to egold sales but as for a person like me in Lebanon i can only pay using a credit card or WU and the second choice is not really a good choice to me, since everytime i will want to buy those 90$ worth of egold, it will be like 90$ + 15$ for WU + (from what ive seen around 15$ for in-exchange) so that will be like 120$ plus the trouble caused by driving to a WU ! Wire transfers aint good either 35$ fee for outgoing transfers from LB bank account. !
Talked to much, the question is for small transactions 100$ approx is there any exchangers out there that you can verify your credit card and just use it for the purchases ???

try http://www.goldage.net
or maybe http://www.asianagold.com/
afaik, only some exchanger accept credit card to fund egold, because egold is un-chargeback-able....
