View Full Version : What questions to ask about a hosts NOC?

I'm looking at changing hosting companies (dedicated servers) and was wondering what is important to look for in a host's Network Operating Centre.

I mean, looking at CobaltRacks NOC information, it sounds like they would be great. But I have had very slow and erratic connections for the 2 months I've used them. Whereas some companies have virtually no mention of their NOC's on their websites.

What is important? What are the right questions to ask? And what answers should I be looking for?

Thanks,
Maxine

Well in short... capacity (running off one T1 only works for so long), redundancy (so you only have *one* connection and no backup equipment if something fails?), a backup plan in general (no generators?), machines as well as *people* to monitor the servers and systems 24/7 (we'll give that a hard reboot in the morning), and little extras, like scheduled backups, technical help, etc. are always nice.
