View Full Version : RegisterFly's flat out Fraud
LtlPhysics 01-14-2006, 10:37 PM Well, here's the story. I paid RegisterFly its renewal fee on 01/06/06, six days before surplusworks.com would have expired, that being on 01/12/06. Fly sold the name to someone else and they will not respond to my emails, but they continue to bill me for all of them.
What is even more enraging was that they sold geardock.com, which won't expire until 01/22/06 to someone else too. I also paid for that renewal on 01/06/06.
And they took barethings.com, with its renewal date of 02/03/06! They take whatever they want and continue to send out bills. This has to be criminal. I will never know the extent of the larceny over the years, but these three became apparent in the course of a single week.
I would xfer out of RegisterFly, no matter how much time you think you may have.
avythe 01-14-2006, 10:44 PM Uh, did you attempt to call them or did you file an abuse complaint? Domain registrars will usually not just sell your domains away without a damn good reason...and it's usually against their terms to do so anyway. Did you get notification of this?
LtlPhysics 01-14-2006, 11:32 PM Uh, did you attempt to call them or did you file an abuse complaint? Domain registrars will usually not just sell your domains away without a damn good reason...and it's usually against their terms to do so anyway. Did you get notification of this?
I have called them in the recent past, paying for renewals for names I was not aware had been stolen. Calling the Fly involves a lot of time and disconnections. My emails to them have been direct and explicit, and they will not respond to them.
There was no reason, much less a damn good one, for them to have sold those names. There was no notification of any kind and the larceny would probably have continued had I not discovered an admin and email address that I was not familiar with.
I'm not the bad guy here.
dmaven 01-14-2006, 11:41 PM I would recommend you contact their abuse dept. I have seen many cases with many registrars where they will delete the names if abuse has occured or a tos violation has occured. Ranting here is not going to help you. I would recommend you PM user regfly here since he works for registerfly and seems to be helpful
LtlPhysics 01-14-2006, 11:53 PM This was not meant to be a rant, but rather a warning.
LtlPhysics 01-15-2006, 03:00 PM If you're not familiar with a RegisterFly notice for renewal, here is their latest.

Regarding a tos violation, I just bought the name, paid for it and put it on the shelf.
If you look up the whois for the name, you can see that it was sold on October 10, 2005. Here is a bit of the top of the whois page.

LtlPhysics 01-17-2006, 02:47 PM I attempted to login to my account at RegisterFly. They claim they do not know me.
They will probably refuse to honor my recent attempt to transfer three names to another registrar.

Anything more? How this ended?
LtlPhysics 01-22-2006, 04:44 PM I clicked on their password link and the Fly suddenly remembered my name and did send a prompt confirmation, which came as a surprise. BTW, the Fly is still sending me notices to renew for the domains they stole from me. In fact, one of those domains is registered with the Fly too, so they have been billing two parties for the same name!
edpudol 01-22-2006, 05:06 PM Is this true? I feel little nervous because I have more than 100 domains with them and afraid to lost anyone of them.
sohio 01-24-2006, 02:38 PM me too. i have hundreds there. I cant check all my domains every now and then.
Masud 01-24-2006, 09:36 PM I've never faced any such issue with them, I have more than 200 domains with them now.

LtlPhysics 01-25-2006, 04:03 PM me too. i have hundreds there. I cant check all my domains every now and then.
Checking your domains every now and then won't make a difference. If Fly decides to sell your domain to someone else, it's an instantaneous event. One-second it's in your name and a second later it belongs to another.
I did not receive any notice or offer from another party and have not received any response to my emails. Renewal dates do not matter, emails do not matter, prayers and good works will probably not matter either. Get your names out of there.
LtlPhysics 01-30-2006, 03:13 AM I have been going through my files...
I registered surplusworks with Gandi on 01/12/02:
G A N D I
(Gestion et Attribution des
Noms de Domaine sur Internet) Domains choosen:
2 domains (2 years)
We now have all information needed to register the domains
cosmicbot.com and SurplusWorks.com
I registered geardock w/Gandi on 12/22/01 and transferred it to the Fly on 01/07/03.
LexTalionis 01-30-2006, 01:30 PM I believe the long in problems were due to password updates to a stronger encryption.
No notification and bad timing, but unrelated to the other troubles.
LtlPhysics 02-01-2006, 09:02 PM It was suggested that an occasional examination of the status of a person's domains may be beneficial, and perhaps the larceny could be caught in the act. I don't think that that is a useful pursuit, particularly for those who have thousands of domains with a registrar like RegFly.
But I don't have thousands of names with the Fly and I looked them up using NetSol's whois. The information I found was not uniform at all, but my name, email and address could be found somewhere in the text.
But one name had quite a bit of information that weren't typed by my fingers.

Notice that my oldest domain was created or transferred to the Fly on 2000-09-02, a year and a half BEFORE I became a customer. How could that be possible?
LtlPhysics 02-02-2006, 01:39 AM There you have it, my name, email address, home address, phone number, everything you would need to contact me. But I did intercept funturnon before I was deleted as the administrative contact.
I called Go Daddy and completed the necessary emails and codes. The only way to halt the transfer, if I have read the relevant tos material, is if the registrar objects. That registrar, of course, is RegFly.
Funturnon.com is not up for renewal until 05/05/2006.

Stan Marsh 02-02-2006, 02:03 AM LtlPhysics >> you can contact WHT user 'regfly' by PM. He's working for RegisterFly and is quite nice guy to deal with. Saved my a$$ couple of times already.
Good luck!
FreshFroot 02-02-2006, 02:36 AM Stay away from Registerfly they did the same too me also. They stole my domain and sold it to another RF member. I am thinking of talking to ICANN to see if they can check out Registerfly.
I don't get how RF became a ICANN acredited register? There support is horrible, the phone service sounds like a teenager is supporting them. I have stayed away from them and transfered all my domains away. They even double charged me once for one domain. Also watch out for the 5.50 .net registers they over charge you and when you talk to support they don't reply back at all.
LtlPhysics 02-02-2006, 05:44 PM I tried that, sending a pm to RegFly, Stan, but I think this is too big for him. He hasn't responded.
So far, RegisterFly has sold geardock.com, funturnon.com, surplusworks.com, barethings.com and the lastest, sweatshopfree.com.
A person on another domain related bb thought I was too quick to judge and acting silly about this. I prepared some documentation about my recent discoveries. I would like to post that here.
RegisterFly fan:
Please do not think I think you fabricated anything. LT, but as a customer of this company, I am hoping to hear both sides and my last post addressing your accusation that they changed your customer date was probably accurate and it meant the date you bought the domain... and if you are so quik to accuse, it does raise a red flag concerning your other posts. I am just a calling a spade a spade type thinker(and that last post was...VERY ACCUSATIONAL AND ALMOST SILLY imo-as a reasonable person, I do not see how you can read what you did from that info-that they changed your customer joining date)- and I am not sure that registerfly is "dirty" and want them to speak for themselves. Hopefully they will.
Well, of course I'm accusational. How could I not be?
RegisterFly has locked funturnon.com and will not allow the transfer to Go Daddy.

Fly,
What is going on here? I renewed surplusworks on the sixth and you have removed it from my domains. I spent a couple hours on the phone clearing up the last mess and here it is happening all over again.
Will you please update my account. How many times do I have to renew a name before it is reflected in my account? Surplusworks.com has been removed from my account. clam!

Dear Fly:
Will this never end? I paid to renew surplusworks.com on the 6th and it is not reflected in my account. Could you take care of this please.
Thanks, Lee
At this point I knew that something was up. I looked up the names and found they had been sold to other parties. I had given Fly 8 days to respond and they had ignored me.
You only think that I am quick to accuse because I did not post about this on Weblamp until 01/15/06, 9 days after I first tried to renew geardock and surplusworks.
And "silly?" There is nothing here to be silly about. It wasn't until 01/18/06 that the Fly wrote me:

As you can see, after all of my letters and all of that wasted time I still had 4 more days before the domain would expire. They would not renew it because they had sold it to someone else.
And now I found out that they also sold sweatshopfree.com, which had a renewal date of 01/12/2007! I had just renewed it over the telephone!

Then there is the matter of simply taking the money for new domains and leaving those names unregistered.
adclow 02-15-2006, 03:25 PM If you have ANY domains with registerfly.com, I would suggest YOU MOVE THEM *NOW*...
Please go to bluestateupdate dot com to find out what they are doing to me... I have been a customer since 2002 and can now no longer reach them. Phone, email, nothing... Can't get through. They have now HIJACKED bluestatejournal dot com, which I paid for until 2007, and which is NOW pointing toward advertising which will generate them money.
Something's going on over there. This is outright fraud, and if you look on the net, you'll notice a record of things like this since mid-2005. I wish I had known, because now I'm screwed, and not getting my e-mail or anything... They have the power to change the DNS, they have to power to screw you, and they WILL do it... All it takes is them deciding they want to do so...
adclow 02-15-2006, 03:28 PM nothing - no password reminder - it say email is sent but i dont get it
and i cant get anyone on the phone
That is the first thing that happened to me... It wouldn't send anything... Tech support was initially responding, telling me they "re-sent" it. Nothing. I was getting tech support replies, but nothing regarding password reminders or new account information (VPS, which I had ordered). When, three days later, I could not get into my own account for VPS, I decided to contact Amex about a chargeback because Registerfly would not return my money when I complained.
They stole my domain names and redirected the DNS to point to advertising. Nice, huh?
dmaven 02-15-2006, 04:02 PM Boy the little kiddies must be out today. You do a chargeback and you expect a registrar to be nice to you? Try to do a chargeback to any registrar (godaddy, enom etc) and see if they do the same thing to you? I am sure they will.
grow up accept responsibility and pay what is owed, stop crying about it.
Stan Marsh 02-15-2006, 04:02 PM They stole my domain names and redirected the DNS to point to advertising. Nice, huh?
So you did a *CHARGEBACK*? You should have mentioned this in your first post here.
NO ONE registrar tolerates chargebacks, because of the extremely low profit margins they operate. So it's perfectly understable that if you did chargeback they locked your account. I think this is even in their TOS (don't have time to check right now, but most registrars DO have a clause about this).
Anyway, good luck!
dmaven 02-15-2006, 04:06 PM I love it how these little kids come here and Bull@h$1 making themselves look victimized. He did a chargeback on probably his mommies card. pay what is owed and I am sure they would love to see you leave
]
adclow 02-15-2006, 04:09 PM 1) I have been a customer of their for 4 years
2) My accounts are always paid in full with them
3) I stupidly answered a piece of spam that offered me a deal on VPS hosting through them. I paid $219.36 for this VPS hosting only. All other invoices for domains were paid forward for several years.
4) They were unable to fulfil their part of the bargain
5) I tried to contact them for several days via e-mail, support tickets, phone, to no avail
6) I looked at their refund policy and saw that I was entitled to a pro-rated refund.
7) Requested a refund through their support-ticket system as instructed. Ticket was IMMEDIATELY closed with no response.
8) I realized this would be trouble, so I asked Amex to look into it.
9) They launched an investigation, and as part of that investigation they refunded my account until everything was straightened out.
10) Registerfly locked my account, repointed my domain names to advertising
I have an excellent credit record. I pay my bills ON TIME. I conduct business honorably. This company does not. Bottom line.
adclow 02-15-2006, 04:11 PM Just as an aside, the ONLY amount of money refunded was the $219.36 which was charged for VPS hosting which Registerfly was unable to set up for whatever reason... I wouldn't know... They wouldn't respond when asked.
As for mommy's credit card, I'm approved for more on my Amex than you probably earn in a year.
dmaven 02-15-2006, 04:12 PM You bit@$ing here is not going to help you. Read their TOS it explicitly states about chargebacks. You will also find out almost ALL registrars and web hosts have a similiar view with chargebacks. With paper thin margins NONE of them are going to tolerate chargebacks regardless of your side of the story.
Try to contact membr regfly he works for them
dmaven 02-15-2006, 04:13 PM As for mommy's credit card, I'm approved for more on my Amex than you probably earn in a year.
Highly unlikely, I can assure you I earn more in a day than you can dream about

Wow... Aren't we smart... And witty too!
Why is it that so many people appear to have the same problem with Registerfly that I did? Even if I wanted to straighten this out, I cannot reach them via any means. I have tried their risk department at ext 125. It puts you on hold for about 15 minutes, then you hear a ring and then "you call did not go through..."
What is the recourse when a company cannot be contacted and will not answer phone/e-mail?
adclow 02-15-2006, 04:21 PM Here are Registerfly's TOS for chargebacks:
--------------------------------
In the event of a charge back by a credit card company (or similar action by another payment provider allowed by us) in connection with the payments of the registration fee for your domain name registration, you agree and acknowledge that the domain name registration shall be transferred to Registerfly.com as the paying entity for that registration to the registry. We will reinstate your domain name registration solely at our discretion, and subject to our receipt of the initial registration or renewal fee and our then-current reinstatement fee, currently set at $250 USD.
---------------------------------
It might help to know that I DID NOT initiate ANY chargeback on ANY of my domain names. The charge back was for VPS HOSTING ONLY, and that is the ONLY fee that Amex charged back.
All my domain names through Registerfly have been paid ON TIME, REGULARLY...
dmaven 02-15-2006, 04:22 PM Try again, I have been on hold for longer than 15 minutes with many companies. Be happy they have phone support.
Once again PM member regfly
adclow 02-15-2006, 04:26 PM Apparently I do not "have sufficient privileges" to pm anyone...
Stan Marsh 02-15-2006, 04:35 PM Apparently I do not "have sufficient privileges" to pm anyone...
After 5 posts you have... Or it was like this in my 'newbie' times. RegFly is a nice guy, but if you haven't followed the TOS (I am not sure are RegisterFly aware and do they care at all for which of the services you did chargeback) I am not sure he'll be able to help.
adclow 02-15-2006, 04:44 PM That's just it... The TOS state that if registration of a domain name is charged back, said domain name will become property of Registerfly. I have no problem with that, and totally understand that. The chargeback on my account was for VPS hosting, nothing to do with domain names. So their recourse, I guess, was to completely disable my ENTIRE account -- my FULLY PAID domain names -- and then POINT the DNS servers for these domains to ADVERTISING so they can generate revenue off my traffic? Please tell me how this is a respectable thing for a business to do.
If this is all a misunderstanding, I will be more than happy to delete my previous posts. For now, though, it appears that there is some very questionable ethics at Registerfly. Even if they deactivated my account, I mean, pointing my domain's DNS at advertising for them??
BTW... 12 posts (sorry guys) and still can't PM... If someone could point RegFly to this thread for me, as much as he'll probably get pissed and not want to help me at all, it would be much appreciated...

adclow 02-15-2006, 04:56 PM Thank you, Paul. I will post here with the results...
Dave Zan 02-15-2006, 05:31 PM Adclow, I hope your issue gets resolved. But as dmaven and the others said, any
chargebacks can negatively impact any and all your services with your registrar.
It's not just domain names, it's everything and anything you have with them.
BTW, it appears something may have been overlooked:
http://registerfly.com/info/maininsert.php
In the event of a charge back by a credit card company (or similar action by another payment provider allowed by us) or other non-payment by you in connection with your payment of the applicable service or renewal fee, you acknowledge and agree that the Service for which such fee has not been paid may be suspended, canceled or terminated, in RegisterFly.com's sole discretion, or, in the case of a domain name, transferred to RegisterFly.com as the entity that has paid the applicable fee to the registry. In addition, we reserve all rights regarding such domain name registration including, without limitation, the right to make the domain name registration available to other parties for purchase. We will reinstate any such Service solely at our discretion, and subject to our receipt of the applicable Service or renewal fee and our then-current reinstatement fee.
adclow 02-15-2006, 05:47 PM I am on the phone with them right now, and we are straightening this out... Thank you everyone for helping... I will post results when everything's cleared up, I promise...
Yes, I have learned to be a little more patient I think... I still believe that this company should be easier to get a hold of, but hopefully this will be resolved once they finish moving.
Thanks again, and I shall return, hopefully with good news.
Aaron
adclow 02-15-2006, 05:50 PM Again, I was not asking for the service for which I requested a chargeback be reinstated... I didn't want the service, since they seemed to be having so much trouble setting it up, and chargeback for the service seemed to be my only recourse at the time.
I was, however, told by the rep at registerfly that when any chargeback occurs, they tend to clamp down pretty hard on the entire account.
adclow 02-15-2006, 05:54 PM OK, final notice. I am back in the account, and my domains have been returned.
The lesson? Two of them...
1) Be patient
2) support at registerfly dot com ATTN: Paul seems to work wonders. :)
Thanks Paul.. and everyone else...

Does anyone actually answer emails? I know they delete trouble tickets, if they aren't ignoring them. I mean really, rapid response that they won't answer for 3 weeks!! They will lie to you, if you actually do get in contact with someone. I've been dealing with this for over 10 weeks now. They have thousands of my money. They have not answered one email, not one. I've sent numerous faxes, spent hours on hold, they play the same stupid couple of messages over and over and over. People that are suppose to be there during certain hours aren't they won't call you back when they say they will. They have tons of excuses. They will tell you they've sent your check. They tell you only the owner of the company can help you, and that he is out of the country. Their lies never end. They are a nightmare, and I can't get anything out of them except lies. I can't even pm them here. They sure won't help you through their site or telephone, or fax, or email. What kind of company can pull this type of stuff and stay open?
adclow 03-21-2006, 12:08 PM Does anyone actually answer emails? --snip-- What kind of company can pull this type of stuff and stay open?
I know it's frustrating... They finally did resolve my issue to my satisfaction, but only after I complained here and RegFly got involved.
My only suggestion to you is that, not knowing the details of your case, you PM RegFly and see if he can help you. I would imagine since you quoted him above, you already tried support ATTN: Paul, correct?
I can tell you once RegFly got on the case here, my issue was resolved within a few minutes.
I would imagine that is all predicated on you having a valid complaint (I did, which is why they refunded my money and reinstated my account), and that you try your best to be as pleasant as possible to whomever you happen to speak with over there. I know it's difficult, and I know it's frustrating. If they would only answer phone calls and e-mails this wouldn't all be happening, but at least you're here and hopefully someone will be able to help you.
Louis1976 03-21-2006, 12:40 PM I've been reading this forum for years, yet I still can't pm anyone. I guess that's what I get for reading rather that asking questions like a lot of people do.
Yeah, I'd say my claim is valid, they aren't disputing it. I have an escrow id to prove it. I've talked to at least 10 different people on the phone. It's just not getting me anywhere. I've contacted them everyway I've found to contact them, including ATTN: Paul, glenn@registerfly.com, sales@registerfly.com, sales@registerflysupport.com, trouble tickets, telephone, fax machine. This has caused me so much stress, just trying to get what belongs to me. They advertise a service that is suppose to only take a few days. Monday was exactly 10 weeks.
Never ever use regfly for their escrow service. It is completely unsafe. They gave the buyer my domain a week after he paid, yet where is my money? They owe me a few thousand dollars still. Plus what about the hours I have spent on the phone long distance. All the other time too, and all the faxes, and all the stress. How could they ever possibly make things right at this point. That is not how you treat customers, and expect anything but bad to be said about you.

FreshFroot 03-21-2006, 08:04 PM Hi Louis, this week I have been trying to get in touch with them. I sent an email to risk@registerflysupport.com. I haven't gotten a responce yet, and hopefully I do. I was thinking of sending them a fax or contacting a lawyer, if they cannot resolve the matter. I like you, have lost some amounts of money from this horrible company. Let's pray and hope they reply soon, that way we can get over this for once.
Cheers.
Louis1976 03-22-2006, 03:12 AM I've also been told that if you fax them ATTN: Management, that you can sometimes get some results from them. So far this has not been of help to me. They still haven't answered any of my emails. The last time they answered a trouble ticket that they haven't deleted (YES DELETED, NOT CLOSED!) was on the 1st of this month.
On [2-05-2006] I got this one.
"It will be processed later this week.
3rd Level Support Group
Advanced Client Support"
On [2-15-2006] I got this answer from them.
"A check is being cut on Friday. We can arrange for overnight for an additional fee
3rd Level Support Group
Advanced Client Support"
The only thing that even seems to get any chance of them doing anything is to constantly contact them, daily, by multiple methods. I started out by being patient and just waiting for them to do something. Well I virtually never heard from them. Even as it is, I hear so little from them. And all they need to do is send my check to me. How hard is that? They got paid the money right away. Except for a little over $50 for their escrow it's not their money to be keeping.
I would suggest to anyone reading this to stay away from registerfly as far away as you can. They do have a pretty decent automated system, and control panel, if you are lucky enough to not need human intervention from them on anything, then you might be ok. I fell into that category before I sold the domain they owe me for. I started using them back in August of 2003, I thought they were a good company, I suggested them to everyone I knew that had domains. So you might not have a problem with them yet if you are using them. But it's the same as playing Russian roulette, if you stay with them long enough, you will regret it.
I didn't find out until it was too late. Don't be like me, if you don't have to. I've been fighting with them for over 10 weeks now. And I needed the money desperately when I sold the domain. It's left me in a very dire situation. I sacrificed my most prized domain to help with my finances. Now I do not have my domain, nor the money for selling it, yet I still have the need for that money.
They really have no care in the world of who they hurt, or who they screw over. At the very least they owe me a huge thank you for my money. I know there are many others who have been worked over by them just as much as I have. I don't want anyone else to have to go through this. The people running the company, probably including a big part of the support staff should be facing fraud charges. How do they stay ICANN Accredited? An escrow service that keeps it's customers money? That's insane, that should be shut down right away. The whole reason for escrow is security and trust, to make sure the transaction completes in a timely and satisfactory manner.
FreshFroot 03-22-2006, 08:01 PM I agree...... learn from our mistakes folks. If you have money to waste and domains to lose, then choose Registerfly. If you want good support, domains that won't be stolen, money that will be used well, then sign up else where!!!
This is a good warning, for anyone thinking Registerfly has a good price and will be cheap. They will screw you over and make your life hell.
So please stay away from them, I myself, am still trying to get my money back. None has come back, nor am I able to access my domain now, which apparently registerfly sold to someone else it seems. All the best my friends.
Cheers,
Freshfroot.
Louis1976 03-23-2006, 11:11 AM Well, they only hung up on me once today without actually talking to me today. Second time I got a human, that told me escrow wasn't in, yet someone would be calling me. I find it strange that no matter the time or the day, escrow is never in.
Louis1976 03-23-2006, 05:06 PM Perhaps some progress. I'll say that much, since it's not final or anything yet. I will say you need to be very very persistent. Probably the telephone is your best bet, and if it isn't handled that day, call them the next day, until it is.
I'll give a further update, when I have more concrete details. Monday will be 11 weeks into this.
Beebadeeba 03-24-2006, 12:49 AM Avoid RegisterFly like your domains depended on it (which they do).
Long history of poor service. A company run by marketers rather than tech folk.
Google +registerfly +fraud for amusement and education.
The marketing guy for their sidekick registrar Dodora has been caught many a time posting to forums (as "comktg" and "pfc") tauting Dodora and pretending to be a happy customer. Dodora even got caught claiming "Dodora's platform hs been selected as the best registrar system architecture for 2002 by ICANN". ICANN does NO SUCH THING.
And they were taken to court by a registrant for selling his names in 2005 and they LOST. They resurfaced later on as apexregistry.com
http://stopunifiednames.com/ is another interesting sit for registerfly.com users to visit.
>Domain registrars will usually not just sell your domains away without a damn good reason...
That was then, this is now.
taylorwilsdon 03-24-2006, 08:13 PM Just to chime in with a friendly note, I've got maybe 5 domains registered with registerfly (I don't do new registrations anymore but they were great when I had e-gold to burn) and I've always had a good experience. Their site is a bit kinky (the login crap really throws me off) but overall its not too shabby.
Louis1976 03-25-2006, 06:34 PM Well I'm glad you haven't had problems, hopefully you won't. You know what though? How does that help those having problems? The people having problems, really are having problems. They didn't make it up or imagine it. Obviously, even the worst company in the world will have satisfied customers if they are still in operation.
Yes registerfly has a semi decent automated system and a pretty nice control panel. So a lot of customers that don't need much will be just fine. So what? If you have any need whatsoever, you WILL have problems.
Thursdays they told me they would rush my check so we could put this experience behind us. They just want to sweep it under the carpet. So have I been paid yet? Of course not. What about the many others awaiting some type of resolution? I bet they're scared to say something bad about them in fear of never getting paid. I was there at one point, so I can understand. I think the truth is, they are screwing over a very large amount of people.
Keep at guys, if they owe you, keep reminding them, over and over and over. Give them no peace, how much peace do you have worrying about it? So why do they deserve any?
FreshFroot 03-27-2006, 03:37 AM I agree with Louis... when you spend money on domains.... and later have no domains or refund..... you are at a big loss such as me. If you are at registerfly... I urge you to find a new place asap. Otherwise you will be here posting your bad experience. I had no problems with registerfly, however later on they seem to pop up everywhere. So take our horrible experiences, learn from them as we have and move elsewhere to a safer register.
Louis1976 03-27-2006, 12:46 PM Just to further confirm, that you should not trust them. On Thursday, they said they would handling the problem. That they would have the check out Friday, rushed, along with a tracking number.
After emailing them, this morning. This is the answer I got 15 minutes ago.
"We are in receipt. I did send this over to finance and they did advise
check will be cut today. As soon as I get a tracking number I will let you
know"
Even when you think you have finally made some progress with them, no such luck. Today is exactly 11 weeks.
FreshFroot 03-27-2006, 09:10 PM I hope you get your money back. I still am trying to get my domains and/or money back.
FreshFroot 03-27-2006, 09:16 PM sorry to double post, but this thread might help most of us out. :)
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=499227
Louis1976 03-28-2006, 11:34 AM They had the nerve to pm me, and tell me to be patient. I've been told many times now that the check was either on the way or would be. Yet there is still no tracking number for it, the thing isn't in my hands, or my bank account. I'm going deeper into debt waiting for it. Yet they want me to be patient. Why don't they make up, for all the time, and money this has cost me waiting this long.
"Rapid processing. Most transactions completed in a few days" From the registerfly escrow service page.
Yet, a month into this, when I was on the phone with one of them. I asked if it was normal for it to take so long, and he says yes.
The "few days" was one of the main reasons I decided to use their service. That's very misleading advertising. They acknowledge that it's not normal to be finished in a few days, and they still continue to advertise it that way.
Louis1976 03-28-2006, 07:58 PM I now have a tracking number for my check. Fedex. It's showing that it has been picked up, and that it should arrive in the morning. That still doesn't resolve, all the time, effort, stress, long distance, faxes, and many other inconveniences that has caused as a result of their delays.
But I didn't come here to complain. That's the lastest update. I'll let everyone know if the check arrives, and the funds clear. So with it took from January 9th until March 29th (if it arrives) to get paid for escrow. So don't give up people, keep after them, until they take care of your problems. Also do careful research of a company before doing business with them, unless you have money to burn.
FreshFroot 03-28-2006, 08:10 PM Good to see you have some progress, Louis. :)
Louis1976 03-28-2006, 08:43 PM I hope everyone else will too. I'm sure they'd much rather spend the time relaxing with family or building their business, than messing around trying to get what is theirs.
Louis1976 03-31-2006, 06:33 PM The check did show up the other day. I'm still concerned that it may not clear. It hasn't cleared yet, the bank informed me that it would be at least until the 6th of April before it clears.
How is everyone else's luck going with them. Anything actually getting resolved?
They still never made up for all the expenses I incurred directly and indirectly because of them. But then again, only an honest company would attempt to do that, right?
FreshFroot 04-02-2006, 02:42 AM Let us know if it clears through. I wouldn't be surprised if it bounced back :p We all know Registerfly and their phony scams.
labrocca 04-02-2006, 04:26 AM If you search registerfly and fraud you get this thread. :-)
Personally I just did a huge extension search for fraud and registerfly and it's actually 1 or 2 people complaining in multiple places. It's well know that RF's support is terrible. However the assertion they are outright scammers seems over the top.
Patience I find is key with dealing any problems with them. It's also important NOT to initiate a chargeback for an overcharge. Prepare to move all your domains BEFORE you initiate the chargeback. Worse case scenario is they lock an account with no names in it.
Dave Zan 04-03-2006, 04:22 PM The check did show up the other day. I'm still concerned that it may not clear. It hasn't cleared yet, the bank informed me that it would be at least until the 6th of April before it clears.

Glad to hear your issue's resolved (well almost since the check hasn't cleared yet,
but I'm sure it will). But if you're expecting registerfly to outright pay you for all the
expenses incurred, then sorry to say you're not getting any.
AFAIK, no registrar has ever compensated anyone monetarily except in Court. But
some do offer some degree of compensation somehow via refund, some credit or
a free renewal, etc.
However, they do so at their discretion, on an ad hoc basis. It's not that they're
not "honest", but they do have to limit their liability, just like any business must.
I don't blame you at all for feeling that way, though. If I didn't have any degree of
understanding how the business works, I'd probably feel the same way if this sort
of thing happened to me.
Louis1976 04-03-2006, 07:31 PM I understand how business works, I'm not a moron (perhaps for using regfly). I also understand that holding onto someones money for 3 months when you advertise a few days, is false advertising.
"The FTC Act states that false advertising is a form of unfair and deceptive commerce. The term "false advertising" has been broadly construed. As you might expect, the term includes advertisements that are in fact untrue. However, the term false advertising extends well beyond untrue advertisements. It also includes advertisements that make representations that the advertiser has no reasonable basis to believe, even if the representations turn out to be true. An example would be an advertisement for a photocopier machine which stated that the machine used less toner than any comparable machine. The advertiser would have committed false advertising if it had no reasonable basis to believe the truth of this claim (such as through comparative tests), even if it turned out to be true."
One of their employees, a month into it, flat out told me, that it is common for their escrow to take a month or more.
Them telling me several times that my check had been sent, when it clearly had not. What do you call that? They wrote the thing the day before I got it. I could clearly read the date on the check. I still consider registerfly fraud, because of their constant use of deception. There is no way in the world you can convince me, that they were not deceiving me. To me that deception equals fraud.
By the way, check still hasn't cleared. I know exactly what they were doing. They were holding onto the money for as long as they possibly could, so they could use it to earn money for as long as they could. Even if it was only to earn interest, they do that to everyone and it starts adding up quick.
I don't blame you at all for feeling that way, though. If I didn't have any degree of
understanding how the business works, I'd probably feel the same way if this sort
of thing happened to me.
LtlPhysics 03-22-2007, 05:26 AM It's been over a year since I started this thread. At the time, the first replies to my situation implied that I was responsible, that I had been doing something incorrectly or had skeletons in my closet that justified RegisterFly's practice of selling my names out from under me and continuing to bill me for their renewals.
What a difference a year makes.
Paul from RegisterFly, known as member RegFly on this forum, actually called me, to go over my account to ascertain what had happened. I didn't get my domains back, but he did credit my account a pittance. Eventually I had to PM him for every name I renewed, because of all of the failures, for whatever reason. I think he is gone now, because he hasn't responded to any mail I have sent his way.
ICANN has asked RF, namely Kevin Medina, the CEO felon, to unlock and provide authorization codes for all of the names registered with them to facilitate their transfer to a different registrar. I have followed the procedures several times, but I haven't been able to get those codes. I have 12 names that I cannot renew or transfer, or even update. There's more to come.
sohio 03-22-2007, 08:16 AM Registerfly is the worst registrar in history. I bought 5 domains in a single invoice and the domains were not registered. I didn't know until I tried to launch the sites. I filed for a complain and they said the purchase was too long ago(2 months). Fine, I blamed myself for that. I didn't even bother to talk to them more.
Last week I tried to renew 3 domains and the same thing happens again. The domains were not renewed. The system still billed me for that. I submitted a ticket for that and until now the ticket is still not replied. They purposely do this so that they can earn from their expirefly service.
They purposely hide the authorization code of the domain so that it's difficult for you to transfer the domains away.
No matter what, stay away from them unless you are willing to lose your domains.
Fiesty 03-22-2007, 04:35 PM That's just it... I have a suggestion for you: DON'T ever get hosting and domains from the same registrar. EVER.
In an event like this, the registrar treats both the domain and the server THEIR OWN, and will keep it as theirs, even though you paid for it.
I know someone who did this VERY same thing: Ordering a server from the same domain registrar as his domain....what happened when the company dissolved? The domain was "stolen" as theirs, and transfered to another company, therefore, losing our fanbase. This was in 2002/2003. We had to think up a variation of our domain name, and move our CMS to our new server, and learnt from the situation. I was never in control of the sites back then, I was a writer, and administrator.
TRIBOLIS 03-22-2007, 11:40 PM Last month I registered two domains for my customers and I added the nameservers. Once registered, the nameservers were blank in fields, I've been trying to add the nameservers the error kept showing "Error: [Unable to establish session:]". I submitted 5 tickets because nobody at Registerfly responsed and some of my tickets were deleted. Two domains were list in my domain manager and I didn't even look them up in whois as I thought they are registered. But then...
I emailed to ICANN about my issues and they replied "Neither of these names appear to be registered domain names." I surprised and checked the whois lookup, it was all basically default text where it is unregistered domain, no match for domain. I paid for those domains and Registerfly didn't register for me! I'm glad what ICANN said so I could re-register those domains in a different registrar (It went well after). I didn't plan to contact enom to push my domains because they are not the cheapest.
Therefore I filed double complaints to PayPal and provided the evidences, they refunded immediately by the next day! Very good job :)
I read some Registerfly customers are unable to collect the auth codes. Last few days ago I collected all the domains' auth codes, unlocked domains, changed the admin email and disabled private whois. There was no problem, I have not yet transfer them, just keep the auth codes. Actually I have succeeded transfer my important domains to a different registrar last 2 weeks ago. I would be glad to help you out if you are having this issue. Feel free to PM me.

LtlPhysics 06-19-2007, 01:52 AM I was done to my final name at RegisterFly and I had emailed half of the staff at RF, but got no response from the individuals. The last response I got from RF support was for an extra extortion of $209. The name expired and I did everything I could to keeo it, but it currently is owned by a big squatter.
bumpylight 06-19-2007, 03:06 AM If the domain name or names is or are important enough, I'd suggest bringing a lawsuit against RegisterFly and the squatter(s) who participated in stealing your domain name(s). Just be aware that by the time the lawsuit wends its way through the courts, you may end up trying to squeeze blood from a stone, as the company will have been stripped bare by other angry creditors. :(

Toufique Ahmed 06-20-2007, 08:20 AM Thank you for warning or else i was going to refer that site to my friend!
LtlPhysics 06-21-2007, 11:31 PM Oh yeah, RegisterFly is still open for business, still committing fraud and getting away with it. It's amazing what a few attorneys can get away with. Their website did have a warning posted over it, but that's gone now, taken down per the advice of a lawyer.
