It seems more and more people who are NOT resellers of web hosting are getting reseller plans. Its kind of silly to have to pay for hosting over and over again when you want to create a new site / domain.

I think reseller plans are good for those who have multiple websites and would like to pay one price / one time for it. Instead of paying two or more different hosting companies.

Its just a term really. You aren't obligated to resell or anything. People just take the more economic approach...naturally.

With normal accounts, you can (usually) host more the one domain with that account and manage it easily without the need of a reseller account. I know most webhosts that cPanel have this feature (addon domains).

People just take the more economic approach...naturally.Nowadays it's funny how reseller hosting (at least on paper) appears to not be exactly the more economic approach, as so many shared hosting accounts allow a significant number of (addon) domains, with lower price/space & price/data transfer ratios than equivalent reseller accounts. And this from the same provider... Bulk more expensive than retail! :)

Hmmm, well it can be seen in that way, but you need to also consider what you are getting with a reseller account over an addon domain. It's upto the requirements of the user. Some people may prefer to have seperate control panels rather than in one, and some people need the flexibility a reseller account provides. In addition, a reseller account does use more resources when creating a new account rather than addon domains. Maybe not enough to justify a high rise in price however.

Looking at the prices of reseller accounts today, they do seem a very viable option for multi domain hosting rather than one account.

At the end of the day, it's simply down to the requirements of the user IMHO

This is exactly why some hosts just call it multi-domain hosting. :)

Most of the hosting customers understand multi domain hosting from what "reseller hosting" describes already .

It's pretty simple isn't it? For normal shared hosting, the provider oversells, so he/she offers the dirth cheap prices. For reseller hosting, the customer oversells, so they buy at a high price and oversell themselves :P

Definitely a good use for reseller accounts. About half of our reseller hosting clients are just people who have a couple websites and want them hosted under one account.
