View Full Version : What's up with HostDigital?
PennyCentury 05-01-2002, 01:55 PM My HostDigital account went down yesterday; the Cpanel has been shut down (in its place a brief message about a server problem) and the Web site located on their server is inaccessible. While trying to contact support, I discovered that HD's own site is down as well.
I can still reach my directories via FTP, so I'm not particularly worried about my account's safety, but I'd very much like to know when the problem might be solved. I've e-mailed support twice, but with the host site down I fear the messages might be getting lost.
Any HD people out there?
WebmastTroy 05-01-2002, 02:02 PM I know last week (or so) they were having problems with SSH on one (or more) of their servers, and that caused the sites to go down. I'm not personally a client, but WebHostCafe.net is (I'm a mod), and it hasn't been accessible for a while, either.
100th post!!! :D :D :D
oops, sorry....sad moment :(
PennyCentury 05-01-2002, 04:19 PM The default message on the Cpanel page mentions that the server's root partition is running out of memory. Still haven't heard back from support, so I'm presuming they're having difficulty reaching their e-mail.
If you look up the domain name on register.com it says that it expires on April 6, 2002. This could be part of the problem.
Why do people like this even go into business? To con people out of their money??
PennyCentury 05-02-2002, 12:52 PM I've had no trouble with my HD site until the past few days, and in fact I heard from my rep yesterday afternoon. He explained the problem and promised an update when it's resolved.
Hi PennyCentury,
Did he happen to mention what the problem was and how long it would be till it was fixed?
PennyCentury 05-02-2002, 03:25 PM I've been told HD is eradicating a Trojan horse that was introduced to one of their servers. No word on when the process might be complete.
PennyCentury 05-03-2002, 04:17 PM Yes, I got my HD site back at around 11:30 Central last night. The Cpanel still isn't back, but I've been able to do an FTP site backup and a MySQL dump through a non-SSH/Telnet app. Huzzah! As soon as I can check my site mail, I'll be laughing.
HostDigital 05-04-2002, 12:39 AM We had a hacker hack into our server and unleash a Trojan, which is creating about 50 billion copies of a cgi script, and when we get close to being able to delete it, it has already duplicated serveral thousand more times, and starts all over. We are trying to fix the problem without restoring everything, but it is not looking to good.
We will keep you posted!
Again, we are very sorry!
Just get it up again long enough so I can get all of my files off of there... this is ridiculous
PennyCentury 05-05-2002, 03:02 PM Any ETA on the server coming back on line? Mondays are my big day each week; if my site hasn't returned, I need to make contingency arrangements.
Thanks!
I think you better make those contingency arrangements!!!
or better yet.... find a new host like I did
Seems these clowns are back up and running, but still will not answer my emails, ICQ, etc.
Feel sorry for anyone who signs up with them. They take the money and run!!!
