View Full Version : Looking for an expert to do a server optimization
kevinnguyen 01-12-2006, 05:36 PM I'm running a Dual AMD Opteron 246 / FreeBSD / DirectAdmin
I have a heavy traffic forum (IPB 2.1) on that server (1k+ users at peak time)
Before I tweaked the config files (httpd.conf and my.cnf), the server was down everyday at peak time
Now it's not down as much as before but runs very slowly and the server load is still very high at peak time
Mysql is always the top process using the most cpu
So i'm looking for someone (expert at server optimization only please) to optimize my server.
If anyone interested in this, please PM me with the price
Thanks
KingSpade 01-12-2006, 07:55 PM If you are hitting 1,000+ users online at a time, even in peak, you're really pushing more towards a dual-server setup, not a single dual processor server.
MySQL is intensive and running a forum really hits MySQL, especially with that many users online at once. You may be able to optimize Apache, PHP and MySQL a bit more, although it's not going to do too much better unless you seperate MySQL to it's own server.
So many queries to the database, in turn, slow down access across the server. It really doesn't matter whether you have SATA or SCSI drives on board, regardless, if you are hitting it already and are moving up the scale, it's really the next course of action.
Please remember us for your server optimization, mail us at info@unixexperts.co.uk
Thanks.
Hi,
We can take a look at it, email me at adam@adminway.net -- we will let you know what can be done once we take a look at it.

Actually, it's within 30 mins
Sometimes it has like 1.5k users online (in the past 30 mins)
So I guess it's not neccessary to get another server just for mysql?

This guy. He did a great job ;)
The server has;
Total users online: 2765
1407 guests, 1352 members 6 anonymous members
and the server is pretty stable. What else you want?
