View Full Version : Google Adsense
hardjoko 01-12-2006, 03:30 PM Hi,
I think I've read a story that you can tell google adsense to pay more attention to a specific point at your site.
For example, say you want ads that talks about debt consolidation, you can put a special tag along the word debt consolidation to motivates google to display ads related to debt consolidation.
Is this true? How?
SLH-Ken 01-12-2006, 03:46 PM Well yes and no, google looks at a number of things. The ads shown in adsense are all based upon what Google thinks your site's content is about. So if you create a site all about dogs, but put a line or two about refinancing, Google will stick with Dog ads because that is the bulk of your site's content.
As far as techniques to change your sites content quickly, and make sure Google notices, one that is often not used enough is the <h1> tag. I am no expert on this but essentially its supposed to go like this:
<h1> = Your main title.
<h2> = Description etc on your main title
<h3> = Content on that title.
A good place to checkout would be www.seochat.com, or maybe some other members can chime in.
hardjoko 01-14-2006, 12:11 AM No there is another tag, like <!--# Google check this out #>. I've seen it in phpbb
Many people in phpbb complaint that google put irrelevant ads. So they use it. I'll look at phpbb forum.

Adobe Spot 01-14-2006, 08:25 PM That would be nice if you could, because then you could sorta of direct google to place ads that are a higher click rate than others. Interesting idea on the H1, H2, and H3 idea, in theory it would work I'm thinking.
Toniee 01-15-2006, 03:40 PM It will just scan your page for the common keywords. I usaualyl make text that matches the background of my site so google can pick up those words.

Wouldn't that be considered cheating by Google? Your site might get banned for that...
Hi,
Is this true? How?
Yes, of course it's true! I hope that the people above saying that you can't do anything like that aren't AdSense publishers, for their own sakes... because they may have been costing themselves some money by not taking advantage of the tools that are available for optimizing sites to receive desired ads.
What you are talking about is called "section targeting." You can add specific tags to your pages to instruct the AdSense bots to read only specific parts of the page, or to ignore specific parts.
Google's support page on it is here (http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=23168).
One thing to be careful of if you use section targeting is that you don't go overboard with it. In the same way that a page that has little actual content won't get optimized ads (and will usually get public service ads for which you don't get paid), if you target too small an amount of text you can get the same result. It's best to use it just when the theme of a particular page isn't clear when the whole body of text is taken into account, but can be made clear by narrowing the focus to only a part of the text.
I usaualyl make text that matches the background of my site so google can pick up those words. Not a good idea. Google does penalize sites for this in the organic listings, and it's specifically mentioned in the AdSense program policies as something you should not do.
I doubt '<!--# Google check this out #>' actually works. That seems so... unprofessional if its true. I also love the theory of H1, H2, and H3 - i'm going to test that in my next site.

It may work in the short run, but once Google gets hip to this on your site you may get banned.

That is, he didn't remember what the tag was supposed to read but the general message put into casual terms was "Google, check this out." Note that it's just an html comment, and as instructed on the Google AdSense page I linked to it actually should read: <!-- google_ad_section_start -->
But certainly on-page factors that also influence organic rankings -- such as the content of headings, as you mentioned -- do affect what ads you get. The point of section targeting is to eliminate or emphasize some of those elements, including body text.
Kres7787 01-17-2006, 10:18 AM As far as I heard Hs help with google.
Beysic Media 01-17-2006, 01:13 PM I havnt been paid for the last two months of Fire Fox converters that i have generated from google adsense. I wonder how google adsense is doing in general and is the money ever going to come.
Lpal-Jay 01-17-2006, 01:20 PM beysic, do you have the needed $100 in your account before they send the check? if so then i'd contact them

I doubt google would ban your site for putting your main text in the tag it's meant to be in ;)
Beysic how many referrals have you had?
There is a minimum payout of $100 so money wont be sent until you reach that level.
EDIT: Someone got there before me ;)
hardjoko 01-25-2006, 03:06 AM No actually google prescribes the techniques.
It's in google support site.
