I have seen alot of posts on this, but I would love to see the poll. Should I go with automated signup / acocunt creation, or add them manually after I confirm all of the billing information?

Hello,

I voted for "Add accounts manually!". However, I think that there should be another option for those that have automated signups and account creation but choose to review the account information before allowing the account to be created (so kind of both automated and manual). This is how we currently do it. It provides greater fraud protection.

Joel Strellner So then its manual. There is nothing automated about it.
BY the way I checked off "Manually"

I don't agree.

Other than clicking on one link to activate an account it is all done for me, which would make it automated. :D

Joel Strellner If you say so. I define automated as instant setup. Like RackShack's servers are setup automatically or instantly.

What control panel are you using?

How about we agree to disagree? :D

If its an automated account setup then it requires little or no intervention. If it is an instant setup it means that once they submit/confirm their order it will be setup at that moment; and it will be more than likely be an automated setup also.

Sorry, I don't mean to be anal. It just happens over time.

Too much fraud out there. We take each new sign up check the address, IP number, and verify the CC manually then I give them a personal welcome phone call.

If all that goes well we have them setup in 2 hours or less.

Not worth it to me, better to take the time and know you are dealing with a real person and that the CC is not stolen, I don't like chargebacks.

Shouldn't take 2 hours to do that. A simple lookup will tell you the ip location. and you should call the customers as soon as he orders. This is what we do and our orders are up and running in 15-20 min.

I would definately say Instant Activation, as it saves so much time, money and best of all, MORE MORE customers join... You would probably see a 10-20% increase with INSTANT ACTIVATION enabled... Why should any client wait hours and hours for their client details?

We use WHN (http://www.webhostingbilling.com/) with CPANEL... :)

this question is really a tuff one... it all depends on how soon you can verify the clients information...

you could always setup the account automatically and verify the information a couple of hours later... or verify it and then create the account... both have the same risks involved.. you can lose clients either way...

bottom line : its your personal preference...

Many systems also has the option of delayed billing so that you can still utilize Instant Activation but the charges will not be applied instantly so you can verify the information

Yes, WebHostingBilling has the delayed billing option.. It's a nice feature for those who are afraid of fraud/instant signups...

I wont like to give access to my server to somebody who I don't know if he's using a fraudulent credit card.
He can spam in less than 5 minutes, or worst thant that, hack your server.
