View Full Version : changing contact inrmation @ network solution
reisve 04-30-2002, 07:05 PM I have a domain with Network solutions (ok,ok. it was before we have all of these beautyfull new registrars). I want to tranfer it to another registrar, but before would like to update the contact information. I'm doing all they say and always get this on the third e-mail from them:
The contact shown below has previously been registered as a contact
with VeriSign. You can view the contact's record at our Web
site. From www.netsol.com:
1. Select WHOIS from the navigation bar
2. In the text box, type the contact's first and last name, choose
Name, then click Go!
If you are the contact and are trying to update or modify the
information we have on file for you, please complete and submit the
Contact Form to modify your record. Learn more about contact
registration and modification at
http://goto.netsol.com/faq-contact.
Anyone knows a sure way to do it?
cactus 04-30-2002, 10:10 PM Just click on the below link:
https://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/domain.mod
You will receive an auto reply to your submission and later a confirmation Form regarding changes to your records to your valid email admin contact.
EXAMPLE:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have recently received a request to change information in
our database. As a contact for this record, you have the
authority to agree or disagree with the modification request.
Although the request appears to come from an authorized source,
we will not process this change until you confirm to us that it
is legitimate. To do so, follow the instructions provided below.
We've added this additional step in the verification process
to protect domain name records whose Guardians have the
Mail-From method of security. We recommend upgrading your
Guardian method to Crypt-Password or to PGP to streamline your
future, legitimate modification requests. Use the Contact Form at
http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/handle
to upgrade your Guardian method.
Please be sure to complete the Authorization and Acknowledgment
sections (item 1b is optional) before returning this e-mail to
notify@networksolutions.com. We will not make any changes
to this domain name record until we receive instructions from
you or another Guardian for this domain name.
Note: The Registrant Organization for this domain name has
the final authority on all updates.
For additional information on Guardian, please visit:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/help/guardian.html
Follow these detailed instructions to reply to this email:

reisve 04-30-2002, 10:24 PM The forms on the link you gave-me are diferent from the ones you get when you go from "manage your account" on the front page... or am I becoming nuts???
alohahosts 04-30-2002, 10:36 PM If you have a user name and password, then you are expected to log in and change your information. If you don't have a username and password the using the mailform link that is posted above will work.
Hope this helps
cactus 04-30-2002, 11:08 PM Yes, the link is to the "Service Agreement" where the domain owner has the power to make changes to their records, in this case you can change your "admin contact email" to your new one but the modification must first be approved by the existing email on record that you earlier registered with them.
Don't worry, sometimes they send you the modification Form(Hehe, to confuse you for their own interest), just reply and confirm it but don't make any changes to it until you receive later another email Form, the actual Form that I quoted earlier, then you must fill in 1a to "Y' to confirm the changes/updates and send it to them.
If everything is in order and you filled in "Y' to the Form, you will get an email confirmation that the changes/updated has be updated.
The link I gave you is the direct(shortcut) link, normally you would have to go to on their web site:
1)MANAGE DOMAIN
2)Domain Manager
3)Go to Forms
4)Service Agreement
I hope I explained it clearly.

The above is correct, in fact they recently emailed to domain owners if I am not mistaken that they will be implementing a new system on 05-01-2002 where to make changes to your records, you can use the username/password(the username/password will be send to your postal address according to them) just like other domain registrars where it only takes minutes to make changes to your records to take effect. I can't seems to find the email forward to me by one of my clients. If I come across it, I will post it here for the benefit of members.
reisve 05-01-2002, 07:18 AM In this case about MSN. My old acount with NS was an Hotmail one. Guess what. Hot mail sent the e-mail from NS to the junk mail box. I guess they know them too.
mahinder 01-25-2003, 06:20 PM hi everyone,
this form has been removed from above link,
any idea where is it now ?
the link is dead now !!
ReliableSol 03-02-2003, 01:13 AM I have a potential client, that has their domain registered with Network Solutions. The only have 7 days until expiry of their domain.
If possible they would like to transfer, but if it is too much trouble the are willing to renew, and then transfer next year.
However, they do want to transfer their hosting, which mean changing nameserver settings.
Now here is the crux. The client is not to Internet literate and the the whole domain/webhosting was set up by a business that now no longer exists. That business's domain has been taken over by someone else.
The hosting is with a third company that does still exist.
Now the big problem is that my potential client didn't even know about the expiring domain name because of the now non-existance of their admin/billing contact.
So the way I see it. The first step is to update the admin contact. Big problem with NS is that the process confirms the change by emailing the email address already listed!! Which doesn't exist anymore.
1. How can my client update their admin contact to a functioning email address.
2. How long will this take.
3. Can they renew without changing the admin contact? How?
4. How can they change nameserver settings with a non-functioning admin contact?
What is the fastest that this could be resolved?
nameslave 03-02-2003, 08:18 AM You might want to start a new thread as all those posts in 2002 are no longer valid since Network Solutions made their new account manager compulsory in Fall last year. In other words, no more e-mailing back a modification form.
For your other concerns:
1. Usually, when you are PAYING, nobody cares who you are. Network Solutions used to accept payment from anybody for any domain. (They didn't even ask for your e-mail address; now they do, but I doubt if they would reject your payment at all. For a greedy corporation, money is the only thing they want.)
2. Your client should have recieved at their POSTAL address a letter (sent back in Fall last year as mentioned) about this new account manager thing WITH a password. I guess you can call them for the username over the phone.
If not, you'll need to ask your client to fax in an authorization form together with their business registration or something like that. It usually takes a week or less. Again, call their toll free number for more detail instructions. They'll give you a fax number. If you are lucky, get an e-mail address probably third-party, web-based) from the support staffer who handles your case so you might confirm or track your modification closer.
Good luck.
I suggest closing this thread.
