My plan is to make a service such as hotmail. But unlike hotmail I will give POP3, SMTP, IMAP, and if possible WAP access. I will also offer more storage, better support, and other features that Hotmail currently doesn't have. A service that currently has everything that I want(all the features I would like to see in my email service) is a site called http://www.Fastmail.fm . Please get a free account there to view all their backend webmail. As you can see their pages load very fast and they are very easy to navigate through. They also have a ton of features. Now I don't own fastmail.fm so I don't have that script so you would have to build it from scratch. How much would it cost to build that from scratch? Also there are a few programs on the we available for free download. One of them is http://www.v-webmail.co.uk/ . We could get this script and modify it to the condition of FastMail.fm . Also there is a script called IMP that we could do the same to, you may see more info at http://www.horde.org/imp/ about IMP (I like Vwebmail better though) How much would this cost? I will also need SMTP, POP3, and defiantly IMAP. We can get programs that run on a dedicated server to do this. Currently Fastmail.fm uses cyrus( http://asg.web.cmu.edu/cyrus/imapd/ ) as their IMAP, and I guess POP3 and SMTP server program? How much would this all cost? I may want WAP access in the future, can you do this? Thanks Kyle Leissner. Email me at KyleLC23@hotmail.com with any questions. fuzogen 05-01-2002, 05:47 PM and how do you plan to make it profitable? I'm pretty sure hotmail, with all of it's limited features is a money loser for microsoft. Their revenues will (they hope) come from converting hotmail users into .NET users. Where's your revenue stream? KyleLC23 05-01-2002, 05:49 PM Charging a one time fee for a enhanced account like fastmail.fm Chas 05-01-2002, 11:14 PM Take a look at Gossamer Mail (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/webmail/index.htm) from www.gossamer-threads.com. It has most of the features that you are looking for but it will still need to be customized. What you are looking for will take several weeks to several months for a single programmer to code from scratch. That's going to be very expensive. I'm sure Gossamer-threads can customize their script to give you exactly what you want for an additional fee. Regards, Charlie |
