hey ya'll, I was wondering if running your own webhosting business is hard and what you have to put up with.
what type of knowledge/training do you need?
whats your monthly income ?
I'm highly interested in starting a business, but I'm afraid it'll crash and burn.

Try a reseller plan first! so you can "test/try" without a huge investment...

Good luck!

Yes it is hard if you have no clue what your doing..

It will take a long time to make what you put in so it is not and overnight thing.. Personally I started with a reseller plan about 2 yrs ago got enough customers to pay off a monthly server and setup and have a couple bucks and then got my own dedicated.. This is the best bet.. Look in the web hosting offers forum I am sure you can find some great reseller plans.. Good luck..

The good thing about webhosting is that it is a relatively easy (money wise) and risk-free endeavor to get into (again, this is comparative to most entrepenuership activities). The startup cost of starting up a webhosting business is essentially knowledge. If you go with a reseller plan the most you can really lose (outside of liability concerns ;) ) is the $14.95 or whatever you pay per month for the reseller account. You don't have to worry about bandwidth, server rentals/cost/rack space.

That being said, you still need to get a firm understanding of what you're going to be doing, even if you plan on starting as a reseller. You also need to understand the committment, even a moderately sized business can be very demanding. Make sure this is something you won't get tired of in a month or two.

Its not realy HARD,I mean the majority of people that run a webhosting biz here are people that honestly love their job (like myself) Im thinking dont get into it if youre just looking for a way to make money, not that you wont make money but it takes a certain love for what you do to bring people what they want.

Investment may be low if you start out with reselling, if you are talking about money. What you do need is time and dedication
for what you plan to do. And of course the knowledge. Have you been around long? Do you work with computers, people ?
I myself have been helping people on the net for years now and loving it. If our computer was ever to go down( luckily we have
several ) I would be completely lost! Is there any other life? I know it may sound strange to anyone with out the passion, but
Those of you that have it know what I mean.
If you are going to do this for a quick buck, think again. There are so many around and profits may not prove to be enough.
Make a business plan, calculate everything. Be available at all times for support.
Read through this forum, here you can get great advice, do a search on what you are looking for here. I am sure every topic on
web hosting has been discussed here!

And remember you are dealing with people here, so if you fail, your clients too will be hit. I think people are getting tired of moving from one host to another, just because the first guy decided it wasn't worth it anymore!
I wish you luck.

Well if it is a free host, then a very very huge issue is fu--ing abusers, who upload s--t to your server, it really can get on your nerves sometimes. Like PHP50 has not been offering free hosting for a while, yet i have already got rid of a hell of a lot of accounts, and the worst was an account bypassing the 50MB account limit, and upload 350MB of warez, i really wasnt happy. That is probably the worst thing, my only recommendation is that you hire a few people to help clean out abusers, and give them good free hosting, with more features than your standard account.
