View Full Version : pdesk??
pattox 04-30-2002, 12:19 AM Hi! I have recently noticed alot of hosts starting to use perldesk i actualy think myself that perldesk is rather annoying because you have to sign up to get anny support i prefer the basic formmail like ticketing system, rather then pdesk!
What are your thoughts on this matter?
TopDog07 04-30-2002, 12:33 AM If you are referring to signup as a customer must signup to get support then I believe it is a good thing, since it keeps track of customers, thier tickets and such. Less confusing I.M.H.O. :)
Avail 04-30-2002, 01:34 AM I like perldesk a lot. I haven't had any complaints about users having to sign up.
pattox 04-30-2002, 01:39 AM farrrrrrrrrk! maybe its just me
toma1708 04-30-2002, 03:34 AM Hi,
I have 3 months I use pdesk, no user complains about registering, you can setup their account from admin interface with their hosting account user/pass combination. What I think it makes it very competitive is the Knowledge Base and Announcement section + the possibility of pre-defined answers.
Overall, the price-quality ratio is more than competitive.
pattox 04-30-2002, 05:25 AM Isnt pdesk free? When i launch,I will be using formmail cgi to use as a ticketing like support system but i am realy hoping to get enough money together to purchase the phpsupportdesk :) .
LinuXpert 04-30-2002, 05:50 AM Before you have enough money to buy phpsupportdesk I think you'd better use pdesk. First it's free, second it's a good support system. It can help you keep track of your customers and support tickets, that's why it requires customer to sign up for an account. If you use formmail as your support system I think you will quickly lose track of them, imagine you have to handle 20 customers a day, easy to get confused one with another. So I suggest using pdesk, it's free and far better than formmail.
HTH.
pattox 04-30-2002, 06:12 AM What i was thinking is just use formmail but have customers input their name and domain and username etc etc i can tweek this to show up in the email title! :)
chrisb 04-30-2002, 07:07 AM So you're saying a webhost just starting out should use perldesk if money is a problem? Is it slow? Can it be customized or the name changed from perldesk?
How much does phpmanager cost, and is it better than perldesk?

You can customize PerlDesk quite a bit, and you can remove it's name, except for the copyright notice.
I get around the customer PerlDesk signup "problem" by creating an account for each customer when they sign up.
toma1708 04-30-2002, 08:55 AM You can remove the copyright notice for 70 $ and I did that because I think it is a fair price and it looks more professional to my clients.

Actually, you can pipe emails to PerlDesk. For example, if someone sent an email to support@yourdomain.com (or even through formmail), it can be automatically piped to PerlDerk, so people do not have to signup.
The name of the submitter will just be "unregistered". When you reply to "unregistered", your reply will be sent to his email.
2Mhost 04-30-2002, 05:52 PM Many customers thanks me when i installed PerlDesk .. so i went and paid $70 to PerlDesk programmer not to remove the copyright only but becuase they deserve this money
