seodevhead 01-04-2006, 02:06 PM If I remember correctly, there is this thing that works quite nicely called 'Marketing'. Perhaps Jeeves can shed more light.
pjbonline 01-04-2006, 03:53 PM Seodevhead has a point that you need to market but you can also exchange banners - it is worth researching google PR
btanner4 01-04-2006, 04:14 PM wordsforhire...
Are you looking for ways to generate traffic for free or are you talking about paid advertising? Be a little more specific and maybe I can help you out.

sabian1982 01-05-2006, 04:53 AM It also depends on what your websites about, it might be quite a niche market and you might be able to get to the top of the search engine listings with some standard SEO. Whats your website about???
Take a look at kanoodle.com or adwords by google
wordsforhire 01-07-2006, 02:32 PM It is a site that promots my services as a writer.
Iadded in meta tags etc so that I can submit to all the search engines and stuff but beyond that Im lost.
Im not looking to pay people to have banners of mine on their site, as my site in general doesnt generate an income via ads and stuff it is purely contact basis but i need to get it out there. Ive basically went for the "Contract Scottish Freelance writer" description...I know its not very niche...
btanner4 01-07-2006, 02:49 PM wordsforhire,
If you like to write alot you might consider submitting some articles to places like ezinearticles.com. That way you get your name out and a link back to your website for free.

PlaneWalker 01-07-2006, 09:47 PM Along the lines of what btanner mentioned, you might hit up the various writing forums that exist -- post some work, ask for feedback etc. that get's your name (and site/domain) in front of people who are more likely to be in need of your services.
bluedreamer 01-08-2006, 01:05 AM good old fashioned reciprocol links have kick started most of my sites :)

That is a very good point, theres nothing like a good article you've written to point both good links and visitors to your site. If you constantly update content on your site as well this will give a reason for people to return to your site.
The term "build it and they will come" works to some extent, but you need to give people a reason to come back to your site!
etechsupport2 01-09-2006, 09:17 AM Yep, if you take examlple of Google, it notice more a page updating frequently and start visiting that page much more frequently. Secondly the SE loves blog, If you know the technique to use blogs you can get more traffic to your site as well just by posting your keywords in the title and having your blogs indexed.
wordsforhire 01-09-2006, 03:54 PM O I dont know blogs so maybe I shouldnt go ahead with that one, Ive finally managed to get the site submitted with all the search engines, got a few one way links etc..So far over the past three days been getting 100 hits per day at least and have recieved three requests for work...I have been forum posting and link requesting for a few days and it seems to work but Im running out of places to try... Any ideas? The site is www.wordsforhire.co.uk its a writing site anyone know of any writing forums or writing freelance sites?
