View Full Version : What's Up with MCHost? Is Kiwi around?

I ordered my reseller account 3 days ago and my account is still not active! The automated email message I got after registration claimed that the account would be active within 24h!

All what I got was a suspicious phone call from one guy claiming to be from MCHost. He was telling me that payments will not show MCHost in my monthly VISA statement but some other name and was asking if that would be ok with me!

Is this usual?!

Have you submitted a helpdesk ticket at http://helpdesk.mchost.com yet? We've received a huge amount of signups in the past 5 days. We just got 2 additional machines online rather than overloading existing ones and are waiting for the IPs to be assigned to them. We're expecting to have all accounts up by tonight :)

Actually this is the kind of FAST support I was expecting from your company. Do you know, I was browsing some of your competitors' sites just before refreshing this page ;)

No, I've not submitted a helpdesk ticket, but I've posted a thread in your forum (which I cannot access now!)

Do I have to worry about that phone call?!

Thanks again.

That phone call sounds suspicious and doesn’t seem right. Did they indicate when your order would be up? Did they say anything about the servers getting new IP addresses?

I hope MCHost looks into this issue about the phone call so that you can call your CC company right now if you need to.

Keep this forum updated. I’m curious to know what happens about that call.

Yes, it sounds suspicious. They did not tell anything about IPs nor when my account would be available. Kiwi did not comment on this issue. I am thinking of calling my CC provider to be in the safe side!

I've just got a response from MCHost helpdesk saying this is normal and the call was from their payment processing company. So, what I need to worry about now is the activation of my new account ;)

Maybe that is there way of checking to see if the order is good or bad? To call everyone on the phone.

Glad to know ur CC info isn't stolen! :)

That is most unusual. It could have been Paysystems.com manually verifying you exist for credit card fraud purposes. You must be outside the USA. I use Paysystems.com too and they check each order that looks suspicious [not saying that you're suspicious here] to try to eliminate credit card fraud. They also ring folks and double check that they made the order too. :)

almost this same exact thing happened to me , except i didnt get a phone call . It took 3 days to setup my account , so i kinda got stiffed outta 3 days of hosting , they told me they were getting 2 new servers , and i would be put on one of those new servers . Yet when inspecting the /home directory in telnet , i discovered ...oh about 500 other sites . My server had some connectivity issues , everything goes in/out/thru the cogent line and to be fair i tracerouted from every where i could , so basically i never saw any of those spiffy level3,qwest,aleron,mci worldcom, or at&t connections . I recieved an email 2 weeks after i had already cancelled my account about a worm on the windows machines within the NOC that had caused my machine to have responce issues ? Anyways , i went with splashhost , setup in 15 minutes , i always go in out and thru the level3 line , the server is dual p3 using scsi . My big problem was the 3 day wait with mchost , dont put or send an email that states you're going to do something in 24 hours guarenteed , unless you're willing to stand behind it , i know it only takes me about ....hmmm ....3 second to create an account for my customers , im sure regardless of how many signups , it could have still been done in 24 hours

Splashhost.com I think is using servers in the NOC datacenter. Pretty good upstream providers there, so that could be the reason for your good experience. :)

he doesnt mean noc, he meant nac. Only some of our servers are in nac. Most are now in Colo4dallas. Noc is short for Network Operations Center.

Its not that old at all

A post 12 months ago is old, 3 or 4 months it can still relate to web hosting very directly, who knows, maybe the person who brought this back up currently is disturbed by mchost.

Sorry to say I have had a persistent problem for two MONTHS. I have been billed through Paysystems for an account that I cancelled at McHost on MAY 25th. So, you see, two weeks can easily turn into two months. What's next?

BTW - I did submit another Trouble Ticket today to try to rectify the situation. I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome.

Seventy bucks down the drain so far - wonder if I'll get a refund :bawling:...

colo4dallas is a facility designed to host dedicated servers. Like a apartment complex for computers.

OMG!!!! I didnt go w you so far only cause I didnt feel like explaing to my local clientele why their sites are hosted in Europe.

Well I already designed site and plans around another (which is way to good not to use)...However I wanted a 2nd brand site for more basic plans (no offense.. just other has high end like MySQL, PostgreSQl, Cold Fusion and hybrid accounts...) ;)

Hosting companies should NEVER run out of IP's. If you have an emergency, post it on your site that you are awaiting another block. It is easy enough to set IP ordering up early if your projection shows high sales for a given month. It is better to be upfront than to have it backfire on you! :)
