I'm currently running my own reseller business but am interested in extending this more in the future (dedicated) but am finding it hard to grasp how to use RH. I've installed RedHat server on my other PC on the network but I get a failed message on boot up relating to the network card, but that is not the topic in hand.
Anyway, how do you dedicated hosting guys pick up on how to use RH and your vast knowledge of Apache, mysql, perl, ssh etc etc
Did you get it from reading manuals or from experience when needing to do something?

I would siggest going to Amazon or Barnes and Noble and getting a book called "Beginners guide to Linux administration Second Edition" thats what I used.. Other than that just mess around with nix on your home PC for a while get a nice dedicated with a good control panel on it and learn as you go.. There is really no way to learn without getting your hands dirty.

Installed it on my home Pc and have been messing around with it ever since. Learning from my mistakes and all that. :)
I bought a few books but they were never as good as actually using RH. Experience is everything. :D

LOL
was new to hosting and never knew about this site until after...
1st dedicated server was a ..... ***** one!
Got it in Winter 2000 - and all was fine but it wouldn't take the latest PHP(4.0) so I asked them to install Red Hat 6.2. They did and left me without any scripts or help at all. That weekend, I looked on the net for info on setting up software and learnt how to compile Apache, PHP, MySQL, Perl etc
By Sunday night, I was beginning to add some test sites and whammo - was hosting!
I then bought books on Linux Server Admin, Apache Admin, BIND etc

I just bought the RedHat Bible Unlimited  edition
Its not a hosting plan, so unlimited should be okay.
I also reccomend vmware.com... Its awesome software to play with on a NT box with a Virtual Linux Box.

A little off topic, but where can Red Hat be purchased online and offline (if possible)? Thanks :)

It comes with that book I mentioned above... ($39.95).
Amazon also sells it. RedHat.com probably has a storefront.
Offline? You mean you'd buy something not on the internet? Is that possible??? Wow!

I'll vouch for the trial and error... *sigh*
I had to reinstall RedHat on my PC twice after I removed some kind of essential packages playing with rpm... *sigh*
lol
