Hi, I have a dedicated windows server with windows media services running to distribute ASF streaming. What is the best streaming size (I mean how many Kbps per second)? Is it possible to encode with the highest rate possible (let's say 512Kbps) and then my server will automatically switch to 56Kbps if client is on 56K modem and trying to view my site content (video)?
Is there a experienced guy from a company that is hosting high bandwidth adult streaming sites with ASF files?
thank u

You can try multiple bitrate when you encode. If a user have 56 connection, it will auto switch to 56K streaming. But I really don't like this method, becasue the file size and the enoding time is the same as you encode each bitrate one by one.
For asf hosting, you can try rackspace or rackmy. Both of them have great network and good in Window hosting. Rackmy is also very active in this forum, he always help other people as well.

yes, but how can you encode with multiple bitrates? Windows avitowmv.exe Dos software offers only one bitrate encoding or I am wrong?

I am fairly certain Windows media encoder can encode with multiple bitrates although the quality is not that great.
If you are doing this professionally, go out and get Cleaner. This is one of the better encoders on the market for the price.
I would also recommend you go to streamingmedianews.com and subscribe to some of their lists as you can get very important information from there.
Good luck
