View Full Version : Google It You "Moron"
Hi Mods and the powers that be,
Some individuals on WHT are using the following website in response to some questions asked here: http://www.googleityoumoron.com/
Although I've never had it used 'on me', I feel that the URL of this site is offensive and is in directly violation of the rule "We take the "Be Polite" rule very seriously! We do not tolerate any rudeness. Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive may be banned without warning."
Telling someone to "google it first" is fine, but directing them to a site like "googleityoumoron.com" is unacceptable at this professional forum (check the web site yourself, it blatantly says that whoever gave you this link "thinks you are a moron"). What do you guys think?

ChaoticSilence 01-01-2006, 04:15 PM Well if somebody clicks on that link then it certainly tells about the mentality of that person :)
Anyway take it lightly man do not forget the fun part :)
SoftWareRevue 01-01-2006, 04:17 PM . . What do you guys think? . . .I think; if you believe someone is being "intentionally rude or disruptive," please report the post so we can look into it.

Maybe if the IQ of the average person posting a useless question (like what do you call the com in domain.com) went up, we would not need to refer them to google which has the answer anyway.

People aren't born with the answers to everything. If you think a question someone has asked is stupid, don't participate in the thread.

Sending them to a website that educates them about google is as good as any answer

Go blame the person who chose that URL for thier website.
the_pm 01-01-2006, 05:31 PM Go blame the person who chose that URL for thier website.I blame the person who posts something with the intent to be condescending and rude. There are other ways to educate people, and it is the personal choice of members to use ways that are not rude. It is WHT rules that members choose the non-rude ways. This isn't up for debate.
linux-tech 01-01-2006, 06:46 PM Personally, I find the url amusing, but that's just me.
I can see how some would find it offensive, and how that url should in all honesty be blacklisted, as it IS meant to be an offensive domain, but that's all.
On the other hand, what can you expect, realistically. You've got a bunch of individuals in a community, many of whom are freeloaders and want 1:1 help without paying for it (in areas like t&s / internet), repeatedly not offering any sort of help BACK to the comunity, simply using WHT as their starting place for stuff, instead of doing what they SHOULD be doing and using the lovely google (or even WHT search) functions first.
/me suggests adding a google search form to the top of the skin, get the best of both worlds, make monies from the search and satisfy people who be too lazy to go to google and look stuff up.
I think; if you believe someone is being "intentionally rude or disruptive," please report the post so we can look into it.
My original post has nothing to do with my beliefs whether a person who refers others to googleityoumoron.com is being intentionally rude or disruptive. I wanted to get right down to the source of the problem before it spreads throughout this community like wild-fire. Who knows, soon all replies to simple questions may be responded with "googleityoumoron.com"
This is the WHT-Questions forum. My intentions with the original post was to gather feedback from the community to whether or not my complaint about the website is valid here or not. If the general consensus is fine with it, then carry on.

I agree with you completely. There will always be people asking the same simple questions over and over. It is not about their IQ whatsoever (like how another poster above thinks). Educating these individuals the right way is the right thing to do--how hard is it to ask them if they searched yet? some people may not be good at searching...

Sorry. I could have sworn that, because your thread was directed at administration, you were addressing the moderators and not asking for input from members.
Hi Mods and the powers that be . . .Had the thread been started in the Lounge and not began with "Hi Mods," I would have thought you were looking for input from members.
Sometimes I just don't think right.
I will still ask for your help, by reporting instances, if you see a member refer to another as a moron or any other derogatory term. :wht:

Sorry I should have put, "To members, what do you guys think?" as the last line...
Thanks for clearing that up. SWR: What do you think about it though? Is it fine for us to answer questions with 'googleityoumoron.com" ? If so, let us know.

There are only 2 reasons why someone would not serach themselves.
1) They are too lazy
2) They are too stupid to operate a search
To both of these, in my eyes, the url "google it you moron" applies perfectly well.
I (and many others) dont like freeloaders that ask something simple that is covered 10000001 times on the net (eg. what is the com part in .com called).
And if someone cant operate a search properly, well they really have no place on a forum such as WHT which is aimed at hosting, hence the moron comment still kinda applies. They perhaps should go buy:

etc.
anon-e-mouse 01-01-2006, 11:02 PM I don't see why anyone should use that site as a reply to a question. It seems no different than actually saying "google it you moron". If you can't help the poster, then don't post at all.
SoftWareRevue 01-01-2006, 11:21 PM . . . Is it fine for us to answer questions with 'googleityoumoron.com" ? If so, let us know.No. It's not fine. But, I'm letting you know anywho. :D
Geez, I sure hope that some of you are posting tongue in cheek and I'm just missing it. If not, holy cow.
Were you all always as savvy as you are now? Were you spit out of the womb with inherent netiquette and knowledge of all things Internet? I think it's pretty arrogant to criticize newcomers as you do,. I think it's extremely intolerant and ignorant to label someone as "too stupid to operate a search".
If you know someone who's been around and should know better but is just being lazy, then you can be a little harder on him. But either way, the moron reference is inappropriate.
C'mon folks. Don't forget from whence you came. Wasn't that long ago you too were wet behind the ears... ;)

Agreed! I've seen it happen, but just as quickly have seen WHT mods remove that thread.

Can you explain the purpose of the community? I doubt it.
Don't be so ungrateful. There was a time you were asking questions.
Also, use a spell checker at least - don't be lazy. :D

Thank you guys! I seriously thought WHT was lost in terms of ignorance and maturity level from all the replies I've been getting--but I can always count on the familiar faces to chime in at the right time.
I wasn't expecting the type of replies that I've seen in this thread but I've just learned something new from Alex Fernandez--if you can't operate a search to give you the results that you're looking for, you're either lazy or stupid.
Wow the true ignorance of some comments...
