View Full Version : Web-Hosting : CyberPixels
Lulabyte 04-28-2002, 11:18 PM Hey --
Does anybody know anything about the web-hosting service, CyberPixels (http://cyberpixels.com)? I really like the way they look, but I don't want it to be too good to be true, you know?
Also, I'm looking at A+ Hosting (http://www.aplushosting.com), Aletia Hosting (http://www.aletiahosting.com), and ServerPro (http://www.serverpro.com), but I really want some feedback on CyberPixels. Thanks so much!

Zorbs 04-28-2002, 11:33 PM aletia...just do a search and you'll be certain what the general consensus about them around here is :disagree:
my friend is with cyberpixels and she says they're very fast and helpful, plus you get tons of features for a low price.
I've been with Cyberpixels since they first opened, so I guess that makes it, what, a bit over two months? Shi and Rebecca are very helpful people, and they really cater to the teen/personal domain community. When you talk to them, you know they understand why all these young webmasters feel compelled to have multiple ftp accounts to host people, or the need for subdomains or a generous amount of bandwidth---because they're members of the community, too. So they offer these services because the community asked for it, which is a nice change of pace. Before I used to pay $5.95/month for 75MB and 2GB, and all of a sudden I have 200MB and 5GB, and still paying the same price. I really wasn't expecting that, but that's ideal for students who may be paying from their allowances or whatnot. If you read my other reviews here at WHT about Cyberpixels, you'll see that I'm a happy customer. No complaints yet! Run a search here (http://board.regretless.com/misc.php?action=search) for Cyberpixels and you'll see what I mean. They've got some fiercely loyal customers who would spread the good word about them, even if you don't ask for it :)
Aletia - just repeating what others have been saying. They've overloaded their servers and getting too many sign-ups. I guess when Hostrocket had its period of growth, everyone flocked to Aletia because they offered similar deals like HR. Now months later, HR is much more stable than what it used to be, more so than Aletia. In other words, I wouldn't recommend signing up with Aletia at the moment, as it seems they've got other problems to work out. So if you're still considering them, wait three to six months, then come back and see if their service has taken a turn for the better or worse.

I've been with them for about a month now and I must say, their support is excellent. I was with Aletia before, and was paying 9.95 and now I'm paying 6.50 for the same features, and none of the crap from Aletia. Usually support tickets are answered within hours of submission. You even see staff on AIM. I'm very pleased with them and switching my third domain over to them right now ^^
Aletia:
Well..yeah. I didn't have too many problems with them except the slow support. But I've seen a lot of complaints about them so I would stay away.
A+ Hosting:
I tried them a long time ago for about a week (yes, that short) and decided they suck. As I recall, the features aren't good for the price, and support was just plain rude to me. I'm not sure if they've changed or not ^^;
knockingknee 04-29-2002, 10:09 AM Is it just me or is Cyberpixels.com down?
Looks like the first server is down, but not the second server :(
Sprite 04-29-2002, 11:01 AM Both servers are down. I was actually conversing with one of the staff when it happened. I talked to them this morning and it seems as though someone is attacking the servers. They have rebooted 3 times *last time I talked to them* and they are still being attacked. They aren't sure how to stop it.
I've been with them for around 48 hours now. I moved from venturesonline because I was enthralled with the lower price yet with more well, everything! I so far am impressed with their support although I wish they didn't go down so soon after I went with them. I plan on staying with them though.

knotty 04-29-2002, 02:24 PM I've just signed with Cyberpixels. I was impressed by their site (really looks professional, unlike some of the junk out there) and had heard good things said about them. I continue to be impressed although my domain hasn't repropagated yet so I haven't had a chance to do anything with it. ;) Just hoping the previous host (who were really really awful) don't try to hang on to the domain (I have done the DNS transfer) - had this happen with another domain in 2000, had to get away from a bad host and they didn't do/update something and it took a month before my domain was really with the new host. :mad:
i've been with them since march - i've hosted with dreamhost, aletia and erxyma {or however you spell that mess} - cyberpixels wins hands down.
the major problem i've encountered so far is that their servers got attacked, but everything seems secure as of now and the main problem is that everything was down for about 24 hours or less. that was pretty random so it's not really anything with cyberpixels themselves.
aletia sucks - don't do it. i loved dreamhost but their plans were way more than what can be found with a lot less features. the service, security and upstime were great, however, and that's what i need from my host so i was iffy to change - but aside from the downtime with this recent thing, they've been comparable if not better. they're tech support usually answers within an hour or two and they are very personable. if you're having a problem with something that isn't necessarily host related {like installing a script or something} they'll often help you anyways or even do it for you. i've asked some pretty dumb questions and they were happy to help.
i also expressed my concern to shi about the same thing happening with cyberpixels that happened with aletia - new host, good plans, eventually got oveloaded with people signing up - so the service got crappy and the servers got overloaded. not that she'd necessarily have to tell the truth, but she did say they have no intention of going that route and the overall feeling that they're just trying to profit but not be, like, millionaires off the hosting thing {hence screwing people by trying to get as many hostees as possible regardless of if they can handle it or not}
cyberpixels are my heros.
Just to clarify that the attacks on the server were some dumb spammers but it's all solved now :)
