Hello,
as some of you know already, I'm working actively in a GPL control panel. Latest CVS version includes new features not even seen on commercial panels like bandwidth accounting for all services per users in real time. We also now have mailing lists support (MLMMJ) thanks to Luca contributing from italia, antivirus (clamav) and antispam (spamassassin) with spam quarantine (courier-maildrop) thanks to Damien fron Singapore, and other nice things (see GPLHost web site and dtc page for more details, the goal here is not advertising which GPLHost seriously do in the printed magazines...).
I'm quite happy with the current version, but there are 3 major points where our panel might have some lacks: billing, reseller, and registrar API. I've done a part of the job for the reseller part, and 2 registrar API needs to be finished to be implemented.
The billing part is still remaining, and even if renewall and account creations is automated, the panel doesn't produce any invoices yet.
I did another software for shuttles (please see www.shuttleplan.com) that uses FPDF in php to generate the invoices online, and it works quite well, I think I'm going to use it.
The fact is that I do also have customers using Xen and/or dedicated servers, and I think it would be nice to have a billing software that would work for it too, in a central place, integrated to the shared hosting panel. Also, I was thinking of a way to get the information from many panel in a kind of central node, where all would be written to be able to warn the administrator without having to watch all the servers.
But the truth is that I have absolutly no experiences with other billing softwares, I don't know what they do, what people like, and what you think should be there.
I also though about integrating my software in something like osCommerce or something simillar. Something to order dedicated servers online would be nice too.
Before I seriously start, I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Any GOOD ideas would be very appreciated, and there are good chances you will see them implemented in the next versions of our control panel.
Especialy, I would be glad to have some nice screenshots of existing software together with explanations showing why you need this or this...
Thanks for the ones who will give ideas,
Best regards,
Thomas Goirand, GPLHost LLC Manager
