Chicken 01-14-2001, 12:42 PM I hope you get some offers emailed to you, since I really can't think of any hosts for under $300 that offer that.
Chicken 01-14-2001, 12:53 PM Due to another post, I happened to be checking out one of the members on the board and this is close, but still not exactly what you are looking for:

webfors 01-14-2001, 01:26 PM Hi Dave,
I moved from Dialtone a couple of months ago and went with UltraspeedUSA. I've been very happy with them. You might want to contact Daniel directly and see what he can put together for you.

Do they actually have any staff? Their prices are keen but I was kindof looking for a more established company- no offence intended to Ultraspeed
webfors 01-14-2001, 01:36 PM Yep, they have staff. I've had better support from them than anywhere else, and they don't nickel and dime you to death every time you ask them something.
They have several techs, and one of them is always online to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks. I'll drop Daniel an email
Any other options out there?

I don't think a serious company with at least
3 DS3's and more than 400 servers on-line will offer
this... For sure you will find that pricing on starters
or resellers, and I don't know if pricing is your objective.
Check the following sites:
http://www.webserverlist.com/
http://www.webhostdir.com/
http://www.tophosts.com
Just go to their dedicated servers area and you will have
more options, especially when these companies are paying
around $5000 per month just to be listed there.
Look for companies offering SLA's, there is only 3 dedicated
hosting providers with SLA's (That I know of) and they are Rack Space,
Dialtone Internet, Rack Space and Digital Nation. Bottom line you can find
more options than results from this posting.
Tabernack just mentioned Ultraspeedusa, I think this board is also hosted
there, and this board is down more than normal per week, most of the time
after midnight EST, but then again, I don't know if is because to
maintenance, but then again, you do not need to take the server
down for maintenance.
Good luck...
Tony
Jordan 01-15-2001, 11:48 AM Just because a host is paying over $5000 a month to be on a host search site does not mean they are any good. Lots of hosts spend fortunes on marketing but yet cannot back it up, I've received spam myself from Interland in the mail.
In regards to the server being down, the server WHT is hosted on has been continuously up for the last 8 weeks or so; there may have been network problems, but thats another issue. Please check your facts before posting.
mpkapadia 01-15-2001, 12:46 PM Just to say i have been with rackspace for my linux machine for the past 5 months.
Needless to say that their support is top notch and i have had near 100% uptime. I would strongly suggest you go with them. They might be slightly expensive but you can go with them.
TheFirm 01-15-2001, 03:05 PM Am affraid that you won't find a server like that for that money. You will probably end up with a PIII or something but not with 100GB of bandwidth or with 256MB.
Our host is already cheap with bandwidth, but for $300. nope.
DaveC# 01-16-2001, 06:54 AM mpkapadia: I would love to go with rackspace but they are a little too expensive for me at this stage:
TheFirm: I have already had several offers that nearly meet my criteria. Also the plan that I put together above is based upon my existing plan which I pay significantly less than $300 for including bandwidth.
Thanks for the responses guys and the vendors whom emailed me directly.
TheFirm 01-16-2001, 08:30 AM Dave C#, nice one. But be aware of some hosts as I have experience with hosts that are basically running their servers from DSL lines. They won't be able to keep you up and smooth running for long.
mpkapadia 01-16-2001, 08:43 AM Well i dont know about u guys but my company went for rackspace bcos noone else was quite renouned out here. India that is where we are from.
We only knew about verio, rackspace and Alabanza.
Also i suppose verio does not have managed services included that is why our choice was with rackspace.
No doubt they are expensive . They charge 2.00 $ per ip and 3.00 $ bandwith per month.
However when we went for winnt with them we were able to negotiate pricing with them and they gave some discounts.May be bcos we were existing cusotmers. For our Nt they have given us free bandwith upto 10 gb a month . No charges.
I just thought i would tell. People who are going with R.S can just try if they can negotiate a bit. Never mind if they are big company. You can speak to Greg Rice. 18009612888
aaronx88 01-19-2001, 01:14 AM DAVE,
Check out 4webspace.com. However, they only offer RAQ.
A RAQ 4 with 128RAM & 100GB of transfer is only US199. I would suggest you upgrade your RAM to 256 for additional US111. Then, when UBB6 comes out in FEB, upgrade it as well as it will improve your performance.

DaveC# 01-19-2001, 06:14 AM Sorry I think you misunderstood I was looking for a webserver not a Raq :)
Anyways I am staying with Dialtone:
I now have 256 meg of Ram, 9 gig SCSI, P2 400 mhz, lot's of IP's, a nice deal on bandwidth and the fastest network connection out there for $236 a month :) :) :)

Cheeky ! :).
If anyone is researching Dialtone, you might want to read the new thread regarding their new bandwidth policy:
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=4911
greggish 01-24-2001, 11:52 AM DaveC#, could you be a little more specific on your " nice deal on bandwidth"? I'm shopping around, and am curious how low some places are willing to negotiate their bandwidth rates down to.
greggish,
(sorry to speculate, but...) He probably is getting all the bandwidth he needs included in his plan.
If you call the sales department they will work with you. It's been my experience with DI as well as other companies.. you just need to get in touch with someone :)
good luck

Jordan -- not as far as users to a site are concerned. They are not going to care if it is a server problem, a network problem, or sunspots...all they know is the site is down.
Romero is right, I have encountered quite a few outages when trying to reach this board. For this site its not a big deal, but it would be if I was trying to run a business.
