I contacted the guy on MSN initially about signing up for dedicated services with him. I am moving providers because I am currently with rackshack and they only allow 32 ip's. I lease 1018 ip's from a provider and was inquiring about moving to terrastudios dedicated services. He asked his uplink about it and he came back with the reply that "they" didnt believe that I was legit and refused to host me. NOT refuse to route my ip's but refused service all together. It was very offensive and I received no explaination to why they percieved me as being dishonest.

Just curious, if you lease 1018 ip's from a provider, hows that gonna help terra? I mean does terra have a ASN to work with, even if, can you move it to his? Not meaning to offend, but to do something like that for a single box... or two, sounds like a "headache" client to me if you know what i mean :D

Hi, as a host we reserve the right to choose who we wish to host, now coming on here trying to flame us as a provider isnt gaining either party anything. Now I do not intend to handle this as some hosts do on WHT, this is the first thread that has ever flamed us as a host and hopefully it will be the last, so ehres a copy of the chat log readers make your mind up by urself:

Session Start (MSN - TerraStudios:bah): Sun Apr 28 21:44:22 2002
TerraStudios: Hi
*** protomanxi@hotmail.com (bah) has joined the conversation.
TerraStudios: how can i help
bah: My first question is do you guys allow IRC
TerraStudios: no we dont unfortunatly
TerraStudios: DV2 who we co-locate in forbid irc
TerraStudios: sorry
bah: man
bah: you know anyone that does?
TerraStudios: what u going to do?
TerraStudios: irc wise i mean
TerraStudios: host a irc server?
bah: Selling shell accounts,
bah: iv been looking for a provider for weeks
TerraStudios: and what package are you looking at from us
bah: im currently with rackshack, they only allow 32 ip's, and my second question to you is I own IP's from arin and wanted to know if i was to get service from ytou if you could route my ip's to the network
TerraStudios: let me just check on that
TerraStudios: if the worst came to the worst we'd have to get u some more ips
TerraStudios: you lookign for a dedicated server i presume?
bah: yes
TerraStudios: i just want to verify it with dv2 wont be a sec
bah: IT will be for shell accounts and if IRC isnt allowed then that would be impossible :)
bah: thanks
TerraStudios: what range do u have with arin?
bah: they are 4 chunks of 254
bah: actualyl are class b
TerraStudios: u have class b ips?
[ note - since when were class bs approx 1000 ips ]
bah: yeah
TerraStudios: nice
TerraStudios: how did u manage to get them
bah: i know a guy that bought them a long time ago
bah: and he just began to sell them
TerraStudios: i maybe able to get u somewhere else
TerraStudios: let me just check
bah: ok
TerraStudios: lol
TerraStudios: damn they wont take ur ip range
TerraStudios: (the non-dv2 facility)
TerraStudios: im still waiting on dv2
bah: why
bah: cause its class b
TerraStudios: apparently you need a ASN to allocate ur own range
bah: ASN?
TerraStudios: they dont have one (the non-dv2 facility)
TerraStudios: Atonomous (sp?) system number, its whta identifies you to ARIN, we currently still go through Cogent because they give us what we ask for without waiting 6 months heh
TerraStudios: i asked him the same q :D
bah: ah
bah: got ya
bah: thats pretty unprofessional that they refuse to host me because I want to have my own ip's routed, and now they wont even let me get hosting regardless, its actually bull****, and you cant tell me you wouldnt be offended, they are calling me a liar
TerraStudios: yeh id be affended as well
TerraStudios: and i wish i could do something but i cant
bah: what is your uplink
TerraStudios: doesnt matter
bah: traceroutes come in handy..
TerraStudios: yup we host in dv2 but we also have various other facilitys
TerraStudios: like 66.28.45.99
bah: yeah
bah: demarc
bah: a cogent line
bah: dv2
bah: atlas
bah: is another
TerraStudios: 66.28.45.99?
bah: cogent line
TerraStudios: thats not in atlanta
TerraStudios: thats our san francisco pop
bah: Well I would just like to say I'v been highly offended by your company and its affiliates, GOOD DAY

IT wasnt just gonna be for that one box, I was gonna lease several and I was not gonna use the entier 1000 on his network. I was gonna route the ones that I needed. But anyways that whole conversation was not posted.
You have a right as a provider to refuse services and I have a right to post what I disagree about. This would had never been posted if you would had explained why you refused to host me
NOTE:
A class b consist of 65,534 usable hosts. I am not leasing an ENTIRE class b. He has opted to split his class be up into 258 /24 addresses so they could sell them as class c. I lease 4 x 254 of his class b which he breaks down into 254 usable host which is actually how many a class c is..

Something is wrong with your math there. I don't see whats so wrong about a provider refusing your IP range, work like that is... well, a lot of work. Have you asked RackShack if they'll take on your ip range and move it to your server? I bet you'll get a similar response. Last time i went to Ford and asked them to make me a car with metal i was bringing in from my backyard, i got told no, and thats the level im comparing this on. I thought his conversation log was pretty clear why he was refusing to host you, because you were doing shellboxes and his DC's didn't allow that, whats so hard to understand about that?

Like I said he didnt post the whole conversation. I kept saying that if he wasnt gonna allow the IRC then we shouldnt worry about okaying this with his uplink. But he kept saying dont worry bout it we will manage. And he kept checking into it. I reminded him I only needed it for Shell services more than once and he still checked into it. So that is obviously not the reason why he refused to host me. IT may be one of the reasons but he shouldnt of told me not to worry about that because he would figure it out.
