I have three sites hosted by http://www.fastwebserver.com and all three sites were mostly unreachable for the Friday PM through Saturday PM. I want to know if they are telling me the truth in this reply I just got…

Dear Client,
The recent connection problems that you may have experienced was due to a Qwest modification that was implemented yesterday. An update was performed this evening by Qwest, which cleared up any issues that remained from their original modification. Our engineers have been working with this provider since Friday evening to clear up the problem, they were key in getting this update rolled out as quickly as possible, and will be monitoring the progress throughout the night. This update may take a little while to propagate throughout the web, but we are experiencing normal network operations at this time.

I'm doubting this because I had been monitoring major Internet backbone providers and didn’t see any indication that Quest networks were having trouble. My host, Fastwebserver.com is making it sound like Quest was at fault. Other past events are suggesting that my fastwebserver.com host has displaced responsibility in other areas too, so I want to know for sure about this one.

Does anybody know of trouble with Quest in the last two days?

Thanks!

We have a range of dedicated Servers on both NT and Unix platforms. The hardware starts from Pentium II MMX 333MHz to Dual Pentium II 500 MHz
And they call themselves fastwebservers. Sure ain't fast in updating their site, are they?

This would indicate to me they knew in advance there would be downtime if there really was an upgrade. If they knew in advance, why didn't they warn their customers???

No, they didn't warn me - and they have never sent any kind of advance notification. This is a big gripe I have! And yesterday I emailed them asking for this and all they said was...
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We will consider them and you will notice the changes in near future.

That was a reply to this message...

Dear Fastwebserver support,

I would like to request that you please begin a policy of broadcasting notices to all domain owners when you schedule any maintenance event which could have the slightest potential of affecting service. Also it would be very helpful if you would send out a broadcast containing the details of any
service impairment does occur. This would be invaluable to users!!

For example, you recently upgraded perl to version 5.6.1 which I did not know about. This did affect the function of one of my scripts and I spent hours trying to find the problem - it was only after I asked you about this that I learned of the change.

Another example - the last two days, you seem to be having trouble with servers hosting my sites. But there seems to be no message from you about this on your web site or in an email notice, so I have had to spend my valuable time investigating and documenting the trouble.

In an attempt to illustrate what I am requesting, I offer below, some examples of such helpful notices which I do receive on average, every month from one of my other web hosting provider (Verio.com)...

Maybe their 128kbps ISDN link to Quest suffered a cable cut, and as they didn't have an uptime SLA (service level agreement), a backup provider or both they went down for 2 days. :unhappy:
