I have about 30 or so webhosting customers / IRC customer and I am going to be closing the business. I don't have the time to manage it properly anymore and need to find a place to recommend them to. Does anyone have an recommendations for the webhosting and IRC server side?

Guys im not looking to sell my clients. Most of them are friends. I am looking for a very well known, respectable, reliable host. I need to know this person is going to be around for awhile. Alot of these people are also clients in another business I help run locally.

Ok. Well search around here and observe the various host to choose from. Just make sure you make the right decision.

Oh, I plan on it. Anything I do I take seriously. This whole month I will be doing research on prices & packages that meet or exceed my own. However as many know, the best way to find out about good/bad companies is word of mouth.

RHS,

A few well known shell hosting companies come to mind:
www.acmeshells.com
www.lunarshells.com
www.shellfx.net
www.voodoohosting.com
www.snagged.net
www.moonshynecomm.com

Just a few that I recall off the top of my head to help you in beginning your (re)search. I have out of the above had an account on shellfx years ago and been in contact periodically with the owners of many of the above companies. They're all stand-up type guys. I can't actually recommend any of them as I don't currently use their services, but least this should help give you a jump start looking.

Best of luck RHS :)

I would recommend lunarpages. Im not sure what your prices were, but lunarpages is 7.95 a month. They also have great service.

I think shellreviews.org has a list you might want to check out - at least for the irc side.

RHS,

when you say customers (eventhough they are you friends), do you charge them for hosting? or more like, helping them with their hosting?

I can safely recommend shellfx.net

I've known Justine/Chris for quite some time -- very respectable, very nice people. They make sure everything is tip-top for everyone.

Edit: For the IRC hosting, that is.

Its nice to see a former web hosting company care so much about making sure there past customers are safe and secure at a new webhost. Call me a "geek", but it gives me this tingly feeling... :)

Yes these people do pay, I only have 1 customer that doesn't pay and its my father. I have already choosen a long time ago I would recommend my IRC customers too. They have about the same uptime as myself 1 1/2 years with a network to back it.

Even though you're being impartial, remember to get an affilliate link when you decide which company to reccommend to your users- you might as well get a little money back for all the research you're doing.

I think you should consider lunarpages.com as from what I can see they are the only host here without any complaints.

Odd, my search for them came up with quite a few complaints.
Where are you searching at?

Note: I'm also very happy to see someone who is looking out for their client rather than trying to make a quick buck.. I only wish it was an industry standard.
