Hi,

I'm new here. Found this website from a thread on vbulletin.com.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon I came onto my computer to find that my website was having downtime, which hasn't really happened before. According to some of the members on my forum, it had been down for awhile. I contacted my tech support and left my house for about an hour, only to find it was still down when I came home. My tech support responded saying that their system administrator for the server I was on was looking into it, and it should be fixed in about 20 minutes. Well, they were honest in this, but when I was able to get back onto my board I found that some of the posts that had been there before were missing. I contacted them again about it, and was told that I had to pay a $50 fee in order to have the daily backups restored. Needless to say, I wasn't a very pleasant gal in my response to them. I don't feel I should pay a $50 fee in order to take care of something that only happened due to their error. Hell, due to the hours of downtime I had, I should get SOMETHING for free, since I'm certainly not paying $19.95 a month for this sh*t.

So now, I'm looking for a new host. I need at least 400MB, and a lot of bandwidth. At olm.net I have 8GB transfer per month, and during the entire month of April I exceeded it by over 2GB (at $10 per extra GB). Might end up as more than that, seeing how we're still in April :) I would also like at least one shell account, preferrably one that allows me to use locate and whereis (olm.net doesn't, I had to contact tech support JUST to make sure of where perl was located). I of course need MySQL, PHP, and Perl/CGI. As far as programming languages go, nothing else really matters since I only use PHP and Perl. I'd like access to all logs (raw or otherwise). Those are really only essential things I need, other than that it doesn't really matter. Under $20 a month at least, preferrably $15 or less.

Thanks :)

I've found out that you won't find any reliable help on this forum.

If you answer 100 questions, then someone MAY answer your questions...

This forum sucks

Guess maybe you're right about not getting a response.

Oh well, I've already found a couple on my own that I'm considering, but was hoping for firsthand experience. No big deal.

Actually this board is really informative at times. The problem with this post is that since most of the members who are active on the board are actually Webhosting companies. The admins are very strict about posting "offers" in anything but certain forums, hence no one can say anything without giving business to the competition <G>. I would recommend asking Chicken (the most active admin) to move your post to a more appropriate forum, say 'Web Hosting Requests'

Hopefuly this will help

something else to think about: warmer weather is arriving in many parts of the world and as the weekend comes, *some* people actually tend to move away from their desktops and step outside for fresh air...

to answer the original question: check the posts from the last week or so, you can probably find some very helpful comments about some of the most talked about (not necessarily good or bad) hosts

I had the same experience. I was with olm.net from 2000 - 2001 and I was regularly going over my maximum bandwidth allotment which costed dearly. I didn't want to pay more than what I was paying.

I decided to mve to tera-byte.com which has a whopping 20GB bandwidth transfer in a month. Though my package has 200MB but that's enough for me. There's also telnet capabilities with a bit less restrictions than olm's telnet at that time.

I suggest you take a look at their packages.

Cheers !

I left olm a year back or and with nearly the same probs. You may post this in the appropriate forum to be addressed properly...

Note: I am the person who made this request (yes, I have more than one name, made "riiibbiit" first but could not remember the password and do not have access to the e-mail address used to sign up).

Please check the date that I posted this!

Edit: By the way, my OLM.net problems were fixed (still got rid of them, though).
