Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting but far from my first time here.
I have really enjoyed reading the different areas of this forum
and would now like to ask for some help.

I am looking at pwebtech and webreseller for a dedicated
server. I would like one Win2000 server and one linux.

Could any users of either pwebtech or webreseller please
give me some feedback on your experiences with them to
help me choose between the two?

I really appreciate your help.

Also, if anyone feels that I can get better elsewhere please
say so. Please note that I do not have to get both servers
from the same source so if one is better with linux then Win2000
just say so.

Again thanks

Betty Ann

Pegasus are good, infact very good. No complaints with them, although there have been a few niggles with the DCJN subsection of the NAC network - although they are working hard to resolve these I believe.

I recommend them.

I'd have to concur that I'm very happy with Pegasus.

I can't comment on the Windows side, but for Linux they Rock.

I don't do hosting, but I do host a large (aprox. 1 million pageviews/day) sand and we're not having any problems. The network speed is very good. Support (when we've needed it) is great.

The datacenter (NAC) is top notch. It's comforting to know that there is someone there 7/24 just in case we need a manual reboot etc.

If you need more details, fell free to contact me via PM, IM or email.

Thanks Matt and Frank.

I will probably go with pwebtech -- have talked with them and
was told that they really specialize in Win2000 servers so if their
linux is as good as you are saying them I would except the Win2000
units to be at least as good.

From reading here before I was under the impression that there
were a lot more customers of pwebtech and webreseller and that
I would get a huge response.....

oh well, would have liked to have gotten more feedback but maybe
I am just being a bit impatient.

Thanks alot

BettyBoop,

You only gave it a few hours ;).

A lot of people doing hosting (and in general) don't really want to say who they buy from. First it can be a security issue. Secondly, they want to give the impression that they have their own servers in their own datacenter.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a linux server with pwebtech on their DCJN subnetwork of the NAC network. It is good. Yes, there have been some network niggles with DCJN as already mentioned - but we are still talking over 99.95% network uptime (probably much higher - I really haven't worked it out). DCJN is a very nice network all round (especially to Europe through NACs direct connection to the London Internet Exchange or whatever it's called) and from what I have heard the full NAC network is supurb.

Don't expect immediate replies for non-urgent tech support, but they will get to you and help you out.

Also, if you tell them exactly what you need in terms of your server setup they will provide it when they install the server (well that was my experience) and deliver you a secure box.

Also, don't expect a great deal of communication with them over every little thing. If I notice that there are problems with the network I tell them, but I don't expect them to communicate with me at length over it (as I am sure they get plenty of notice from many customers when there is a problem). I just expect them to fix the problem, which they always do.

I'm looking forward to when they install the BGP4 to cross over to the full NAC network in case of problems on the DCJN - hope that Jason will be able to update us soon ;)

Hope that helps.

I would really like to have one server with one company and a second with another company --- mostly for back-up purposes but also to prevent the possibility of a major down-time should something go terribly wrong.

I have been burnt by hosts one too many times now and want to have myself in a position so that I can quickly have all sites up and running should a long down-time hit.

From everything you guys are saying I should really go with pwebtech (which I will be doing) but now I would like to know where would be best for setting up my back up server. Is webreseller.net the place to go or is there better out there?

Thanks, I really appreciate all the input! :)

Betty,

If you have a good budget I recommend focalhosting.com

Awesome network [100% up for the last 112 days] and incredibly good support [has to be seen to be believed]

Cheers

You can try OCHosting.com. I use them and so far the service has been great. Their prices are awesome as far as dedicated goes.

Overall I think pwebtech suck.

The support was great for the first couple of weeks and then went rapidly downhill.

After transferring my sites from interserver to pwebtech I found I had a weird server load problem, for no apparent reason the server load would jump from 0.3 to 4.5, it would then stay at 4.5 for an hour or so and then all of a sudden drop back down to normal levels. I tried to get help from support on numerous occasions and always received incredibly poor answers (when they did answer), they just didn't want to know or didn't care.

I then decided to upgrade my server to see if that would help the problem, so I asked Jay via ICQ to give me a rough price to install a second scsi drive and an extra 512 Mb of memory.

Jay gave me a rough price for the hard disk but didn’t know how much the memory would cost, he said he would have to ask Ed how much it would be and could I email my server details to the sales email address.

I sent all my details as requested straight away and then waited to hear back from them, after 4 days I emailed them again asking if there was any news regarding the server upgrades, final prices, dates and times when the upgrade will happen etc...

Ed responded to the email a couple of days later asking "what is your current configuration and what size scsi drive are you looking to upgrade to?" I replied to the email stating my current config and explained I wanted a second drive, some memory, and a price, effectively repeating everything I had discussed with Jay previously.

Almost 2 weeks has now past since the last email and I still haven’t heard back from them.

I think pwebtech has serious problems, It seems inter office communication and general support are very poor, probably due to severe under staffing.

Normally I don’t post messages like this, but the time has come where enough is enough.
