ive tried them both out and i like plesk its more admin friendly, but i just dont know if its worth giving up fantasico. On the other hand plesk has a sitebuilder too(but who would you host that would use that). What are your opinions/expirences

I wouldn't use Plesk for the SiteBuilder tool and I agree with your contention that most users would not even consider using it. But in general I like Plesk more than cPanel.

I use to have plesk and I thought it was amazing. I noticed every once in a while that plesk would have problems and I would have to contact their support and get them to fix known issues. Sometimes they were unable to fix it and wouldn't unless I payed them a fee. I switched to cpanel and whm and it is blows away plesk. It is easy to use, it has more controls and options, and overall it just works a lot better.

I'm a big cpanel fan. Very functional and the times we've had to contact their support, they've always been quick to respond and very quick to fix any issues.

While I'm not in the Plesk camp now, for a stability and usability standpoint, it's no competition. Plesk has a much cleaner interface, is significantly more stable than cPanel and while Plesk does have some dependancies on the server software, it's nowhere nearly as bad as cPanel's. Some will say that cPanel is "more robust" than Plesk but if you consider what 99% of all web hosts/clients do, both cPanel and Plesk do the exact same thing.

My biggest beef w/ Plesk, however, is qmail which is a rotting piece of crap. Once you get past that, Plesk is a pretty good product. Thankfully with Plesk 7.5 for Linux, they unbundled Plesk's usage of mysql, php and apache from what your websites use, something cPanel really needs to learn how to do. So with Plesk, you can run apache 2 (or 2.2 if you're crazy), MySQL 5 and PHP5. Plesk also uses fewer server resources than cPanel so you can fit that extra website or 10 on a plesk box.

Sorry I would say Hsphere is the best of all.

exactly what does cPanel offer ***that people actually use*** that Plesk doesnt? Besides a cluttered interface, being a memory pig, being more unstable than plesk and not allowing you to choose your own versions of popular applications?

This probably is one of the biggest disadvantages of Plesk. They charge for everything under the sky and their list of payed support options seems to go on for ever. :crying:

yeah, if it wasn't for ART and the user forums, Plesk would have issues. Thankfully I never had any problems in the time I ran Plesk but that's a big ugly about them, one of the few.

Never tried plesk. I'd go with cPanel, but I recently started using Direct Admin, and find the interface is much more relaxing and easy to use.

I use Plesk, and love it! Once you get used to it from cPanel/WHM, I think it looks a lot nicer!

From a user or novice point of view, Plesk has nicer interface, easier to use and that is pretty much it.

From an experienced admin who needs to do serious work on a server and customize the server to their specific needs, Plesk falls way short. I hate the PLESK structure on Unix, it lacks the simplisity of cPanel backup tool which will save any system admin alot of time in recovering accounts.

I still believe for an experience admin, Plesk is behind even with their 7.5 version

I am thinking of building a whole new panel. I have cpanel now I am disconnecting my servers by feb 13 2006 I don't wanna do hosting any more but I do want to built my own panel.

cPanel comes with three skins now. We're also looking to develop new skins. I'd be interested in hearing more specific feedback on how we can improve the themes.

Cpanel can simplie order Templatemonster a other major temp companies to create new and UI friendly.

I've got to put my vote in for Plesk. The interface is especially nice, but it can take quite a few minutes to go through the long process of creating a hosting account.

In my opinion, between the two I would choose Plesk.

cpanel has a more user-friendly interphase for the newbies.

I think Plesk is hardier and generally gives fewer problems.


If you were to ask me about any panel, I would choose directadmin.

I have used Plesk about two years ago, but after many problems I switched to CPanel.
My main reasons were
1. Normal and easy working account and entire server backup and restore feature which allow easy server transfers. Now in the last versions of Plesk they also did some similar tools, but I heard they still not working properly and Plesk asking a lot of money for each support query and for help to transfer server they asking you few hundred dollars... - so crazy compared to Cpanel where I can easy transfer for free all accounts from server to server.
2. Better email handling - Plesk is using Qmail which is very bad relative to CPanel exim and courier - especially because CPanel allow storing all user emails inside of user account area so each user can access them as to his files which is very nice feature for both users and admins view.
3. Better Cpanel pricing structure - not like plesk asking you a lot of money for every small panel add-on....

Plesk is easiest to use, and site builder makes the best websites!!!

If only cPanel can have an even more user friendly layout! Otherwise it's great! Better than vdeck!

To some, control panel software is all about ease of use. To me, it's about the features and I believe cPanel is the most feature rich control panel to date for *NIX. I'll support it for my users till the day that I die and can't wait to start offering it for the Windows platform once released.

I've used Plesk and I know a lot of users we have love it, mainly for the interface and the very straight forward way it does things, but cPanel will always be closer to my heart.

I've been reading this thread with interest because I've been trying to figure out how to make my clients more self-supportive. It really surprises me that so many people are up on cPanel. I don't have experience managing it (maybe that's where it shines) but man oh man it's got a clunky interface! I agree that some skins may help, but my clients really struggle to get at the features and I always have to spend a lot of time with them to help them learn it. Plesk is a bit better. Still, I think there's tons of room for improvement with this sort of software.

I always thought CPanel ran a lot faster, but I have taken to Plesk. I like the interfaces, and it has a more organized presentation (Yes, I'm saying I like it better because it looks better!).

I also use Dr. Web's antivirus, and that's a nice feature to have in Plesk.

My advice is to try both -- because it really comes down to personal preferences. If you have power users that only care about getting to the meat, CPanel is the choice to make. If you have users that need a fairly logical presentation in order to help guide them through the features of the control panel, Plesk is going to excel. It's very easy to remove features to reduce clutter and make it easier to use for your users.

CPanel is the best. I prefer it to all the others. You can integrate RVSkin and so many other features and interfaces with it. I prefer it over Plesk without doubt.
