Can we do something about the Marketplace Forums and the countless people posting things like "Wow! Nice work!", "Wow, I love the design. I wish I had the money!". I think all of these posts are just stupid and are people just trying to get their post count up. I see it multiple times everyday, whether or not by the same person. It's obvious the person isn't interested in buying anything when they say "Nice work" to over 5 threads for things such as design. I really wish it could become more seller-friendly, and have only interested and serious buyers replying to the threads. I know that when I post something for sale such as a design, I don't want 5 people saying "Hey, that's some nice work you got there!", and not even being interested in the sale the slighest bit. What do I think we can do about this problem? Have the mods remove the posts that say things such as that if people decide to report them. Sure, it would slow things down more in the forums, but it would also prevents bumps and useless +1 to peoples posts counts.

Opinions are appreciated.

What's wrong with promoting fellow designers? It feels good to get compliments for your hard work. So,I don't feel that they should be removed.

Compliments are good, yes. But when people have absolutely no interest in the sale, it's quite pointless. Or change it so posts in the Marketplace do not count towards post counts! That would be a good idea.

It's been done before. But, we can get some input from other members and staff also :)

The topic has come up before. Here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=456831), for example. Not everyone shares the same opinion, but the fact that it keeps coming up shows that it's a concern for more than a few people.

Sorry for posting it once again, unfortunately the search feature doesn't work too well either. (I know it's on vB's end).

No problem. Sometimes you have to know the keywords for what you're searching for before you can search for it. I used the word "count" for my search and limited the search to this forum.

Another thread on the topic is Pondering the Perplexing Post Count Problem (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=422170).

It would be nice to have those posts removed, but the sheer volume of them on WHT would make moderating for them a huge task. Plus, there are already many more restrictions on this forum than other equally popular ones. So I say:

No more rules!

(I know it's on vB's end).

Actually, it's not.
The search feature is broken(??) because
A> the proper search engine is not enabled in admincp
or
B> The skin doesn't have the option in advanced search.

Either way, it's not VB's fault, or on VB's end.

As far as the topic, it'd be nice to do that. Then again, it'd be nice to see people who took ads up not close the threads (because of whatever reason) immediately afterwards too.

stuff like this (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=471840) for example. One post, the thread's locked. They're not the only one doing it, I can name at least one more individual , probably more who does it every time they post an "ad".

Well, that thread does say:

"How to Apply
To apply for any of our available support positions, send the following information by e-mail to management[at]dedicentral.com. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POST."

What's wrong with that? Maybe he wants to privately handle his situation.

That's not the point. The point is that he took an ad out in an advertising forum (and that was just an example, mind you). The user should at least leave the ad open for questions in that forum. If it becomes out of hand, yes, it should be closed, but to just close it without any responses whatsoever is just a bit much.

well it sounds to me a not a problem you cannot blame people replying for such messages. some aprreciates and some do their post count.

see when an topci needs some replies like that we must, appreciating someone's work could not be considered as spamming or useless posts.

I guess I'm glad I specified that I had bought a design from the OP when I subsequently complimented them in another thread recently. Makes me feel more "legitimate" for those watchdogs who think compliments are spam. There are many reasons, many possibilities that are not apparent behind some of these posts.

Should we have to submit proof of prior purchase or interaction via helpdesk ticket when posting a compliment, as people reviewing their hosts have to provide their URLs? :)

I have voiced my opinon on this before, but I'll say it again. I love compliments as much as the next guy, I really do. But when I get a compliment from the same person that has made the last 400 post complimenting templates in the marketplace, it really holds no meaning any more. I would highly vote for the post counts to be disabled in the marketplace, and let the compliments flow!

I agree 100% here. This would, unfortunately, have a negative affect on the individuals that use the forums strictly to advertise, but it would have the added bonus (maybe) of encouraging more individuals to actually participate in the forums, rather than spend all their time advertising and doing nothing else ;)

Heck with those that use the forum for nothing but advertising! WHT should be community/discussion/insane on-going arguments over the same topics over and over again that never loose their appeal/whatever else first, and advertising second. ;)

Really the only place I personally see this problem is in the templates/graphics section. There is also the annoying:

PM sent
PM sent
E-mail Sent
I sent you a PM
PMs replied to
Did you get my pm?
which pm was that one?
the one pm from me
I didn't get a pm from you
PMed again
why can't I recieve PMs?
SPAM
SPAM
PM me again
etc....

that really gets annoying at times, but I can tollerate that one ;)

...which is why it's against the rules ;) We delete them where reported and appropriate, although moderators do have discretion in when to leave them and when to remove 'em.

If you really care about "post counts" so much then you need to get a life. I can understand not liking the two word replies but for all posts in the advertising forum ... is it that big of a deal?

Just my 0.02 ;)

Just FYI...If you look at all my hosting ads and script ads, they are open for user discussion. I subscribe to them, and reply to them. However, when it comes to jobs, there are certain things that I do not want posted in a forum, and prefer all questions get directed to me via email, not on a public forum. Some things just aren't meant to be discussed in public...
