Hey everybody...my first post.

Ok so, I tried pinging my domain name a couple times these past few days (I have never done this previously) and I am getting "request timed out" everytime.

What does this mean? What do I do? I mean the site is up and running just fine, I guess I am a little confused.

I have done the same for three different domains hosted with the same company (if this matters), no response for all of them.

Thanks for your help, I plan on sticking around...

Hey, Welcome to WHT. Whats your domain?

ok, so after talking with my hosting company (you got to love instant chat support), turns out they block pinging for "security reasons"....is this normal? I don't know what to think of that.

accountingcoach.com is the domain

Blocking pings is very normal and not something I would be concerned about.

Thanks for your response. I probably should have checked with my hosting company before I posted, but in any case...

We also block pings on our servers for security purposes. It has truly helped a lot in deferring possible attacks. Personally, I'd hold your web host in a higher regard simply because they have security in mind -- this shows you that they have taken steps to ensure customer security. Happy Holidays!
