heathermoore 12-26-2005, 10:38 AM | I currently have a server with these specs looking for another with similar specs with another company
RedHat Linux
P4 3.0 GHz CPU w/ 800 MHz FSB; 1 MB L2 cache
cPanel/WHM Unlimited License (latest version)
60 GB Storage
1000 GB Monthly Transfer
1 GB PC3200 DDR RAM
4 IP addresses
20 Domains
Fully Managed service with 24/7 support by phone and email
FREE - Full daily backup up to 30 GB |
ayksolutions 12-26-2005, 12:53 PM Take a look at GNAX, they provide great services at very good prices, and they are managed. You'll have to pay for the backups though. In your case, it'll be $15/month for 30gigs. |
AH-Tina 12-26-2005, 02:57 PM | Your budget is good...you should get a better machine for that price.

Fully managed? Are you serious? Maybe our definition of fully managed differs. |

You have seen what I am getting for $199 do you have any suggestions? I need to set up by 1st week in New Year. |

For that server? Absolutely. Any company that knows what they're doing will have the management aspect streamlined. There's really not a whole lot that can go wrong with a fully managed server, if done correctly and the customer doesn't have root access. Its basically just a glorified reseller account, except on its own private machine.

CentOS is basically the new Red Hat (kinda sorta). Used to be that most cPanel servers came with Red Hat...now its CentOS. Since you're looking for a managed solution, this really won't be a concern for you at all.

heathermoore 12-27-2005, 02:06 PM Good web hosting seems to be few and very far between. While some host on the surface may have what I require once you go to order there are other charges that are popping up. Some may have what I need but the reviews on them have been Horrific.
I am still open to suggestions |
sTag-Dan 12-27-2005, 02:57 PM Have you looked at iWeb.ca? They may put something together for you. |
ayksolutions 12-27-2005, 03:44 PM If by managed you mean you don't want root access, then the only company I know that does that is 1and1 and from what I hear they are horrible. If by managed you mean a company that will work with you on things such as kernel updating, software installation assistance, then you have a much broader market to look at. What companies have you looked at so far? |
heathermoore 12-27-2005, 04:50 PM Xilo, Totalchoicewebhosting, Axishost, Serverfly, surpasshosting, fluidhosting, liquidweb, interland, fastservers are what I can recall now. We need a fully managed server that will be sufficent for our needs now and probably for the next year or two.
These are the average monthly stats for the two primary websites that will be hosted on Server and the scripts that are used so that you can have an idea of what I should need.

ayksolutions 12-28-2005, 12:06 AM Well, from what I hear on here is that AxisHost is decent (Tina posts here a lot and she seems to know what she's talking about, I don't know her personally though), interland I heard was pretty bad. LiquidWeb I have seen them on here, but don't know too much about them. Same goes for fastservers. As far as the others go, not exactly sure.
I would once again suggest just running a search on those companies here and see what comes up, as well as maybe on Google.
17gigs of monthly traffic isn't too bad at all, any decent server provider will be able to handle that no problem. Same goes for your second site. A good server would be able to handle both of those sites on the same box no problem. A 3.2Ghz p4 with HT and possibly 2GB of RAM would do you good. They are right in your price range, closer to $100 than $200.
As far as managed goes, not sure what companies 'manage' their servers from the ones you listed. If you want to get your server administered besides just having it 'managed' by the noc, you should hire someone if you are not able to do so yourself. I would recommend www.got-management.com for that task. They charge $95/month for your first server. This includes a 15 minute guaranteed reboot notification per your instructions 24 hours a day. I have been with them for over a year and the guy that runs it, John, is actually a friend of mine now. Not that we get together for tea or anything, but you can always ask him about other things aside from just "server management".
In any case, I would once again strongly recommend Gnax (www.gnax.com) for a server. They are very reliable and affordable. You'll be glad you went with them. We currently use them with great success.
Sorry for the long post but hope that helps. If you have any other questions, do let me know. |

You don't need a dedicated machine for these sites. Semi-dedicated, at most |

Ekhwan 01-06-2006, 02:11 PM Have a look at Surpass Hosting. That have some good line of dedicated machines. Look at their MANAGED definition if it fits you. |

I recommend axis host for what your doing.. But really, I don't see why you need put so much money out a full dedicated server that you dont have access to that is just allocated to those two websites :) ... semi-dedicated would be a good way to go.. But you are getting a good deal for that price :) Good price range you know? |

get an unmanaged server from anyone and add the service from easyservermanagement.com to it. they work streamless together and you should be just below $200 per month with a perfect and 100% secured set up.
hope that helps
have a nice day

Not fully managed... his pricing looks exacly what I'd pay for unmanaged. |
