I would say there's a tie between Aliens and Independence Day (awesome visual effects) for me. And my favorite comedy would have to be Office Space.

Runners up: Memento and The Thing (1982)

I have to say that Magnolia was one of the most weirdest movies that I have viewed.

AI was a movie that would've been good except for the last half of the movie - what was Spielberg thinking?

Black Hawk Down was a nice combo of drama and action tied in with realism and history.

Shrek - I laughed so hard... LOL

i really can't name a one-time favorite movie tho... but I happen to like stuff like Mission Impossible, The Thomas Crown Affair (very nice and creative movie), The Score, Ronin, Enemy of the State, The Saint, etc... (get a pattern going with these espionage/disguise/etc type of movies) :D

I have a wide range of tastes in films, never could decide which one were my favorites. But narrowed down, the list would consist of:

- Benny and Joon
- The Princess Bride
- The Shawshank Redemption
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- Attack the Gas Station
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off
- Heathers
- Wheels on Meals

And I've noticed a bunch of you guys go for that action stuff. Perhaps you would like to try this Korean film called "Attack the Gas Station." You can find a review here (http://www.mediacircus.net/atgs.html). It was probably the most funniest movie I have ever seen. Ever. Plus it is mindlessly violent and you gotta give props to the hilarious English subtitles. It is a region-free DVD so no worries about player compatibility.

I could list movies and write about them all day, and still not have a firm list of my favorites. So I'll just list in no particular order some favorites that people should see, or see again if you have (and I'll comment that some of you people seem to think that movies were just invented last year! :) ).

Apocalypse Now (not Redux, the original, though flawed, was better)
Raging Bull
Blade Runner (director's cut)
North by Northwest
Double Indemnity
Chinatown
Ran
The Hidden Fortress
Casablanca
GoodFellas
The Searchers
High Noon
The Usual Suspects
Fight Club
Fargo
The Straight Story
Brazil
Spartacus
Baraka
Run Lola Run

Why am I even bothering... this list would never end!

Hey Tim, If you haven't seen it look out for 'Once Were Warriors' - a similar vein the the above, but more confrontational, and more 'unsettling' to watch, but a brilliant movie from New Zealand (land of Lord of the Rings, Xena and Hercules) :D

Highly violent protrayal of a Maori family falling apart in Auckland's 'ghetto' area. A big difference from those hollywood 'gang' movies is there's not a single gun in the whole movie. (300 pound 'Mongrel Mob' members tend to prefer the feeling of skin on skin it seems).

Took a date to see it at the cinema when it came out and sat in the front row. She was visibly shaken by the end of it... possibly not the best choice in retrospect :)

Greg, thanks for the tip. My wife was telling me about that. I don't remember if she saw it and liked it, or if she just wanted to watch it because she heard it was good. Either way, it looks like I'll be watching it at some point. :-)

For humor in strange places, my all time favorite is the Hitchcock thriller, "Frenzy", a story about a necktie murderer.

The chief inspector's wife is into gourmet cooking and those scenes are truly outrageous.
