Nice deal :) But, WOW! I have never seen so much bouncing around on a network. It took me 36 hops from Saint Louis to Miami.

that sucks, where you tracing from? Cogent does funky stuff occasionally, but how fast did the file go? :)

yea, funky cogent ... In order to get me from CT to Washingto, DC (not in FL, according to visualroute), the data was routed through Chicago, San Fransisco, Dallas, Tampa (FL), and then finally Washington DC. So, to reach 400-500 miles the data needs to travel 8000 miles or so. Do you know why this is? This is the second time that cogent traceroute show funky result.

Hm ... I think I might know the answer, I bet rackmy is traceroute out of his AT&T connection and my cable modem too is using AT&T. It seems that to get into cogent, my AT&T needs to peer with netrail (which is cogent's) and the peering point is at San Fransisco, CA. wow .....

cheers,

Actually, i can't remember where i read it, but it was explained somewhere previously. Cogent uses cheaper routing techniques, such as cold-potatoe routing to produce this effect because it uses a lot less load on the routers, and helps them provide the price. It does not explain why that sometimes happens, but it's more then likely related. Some people get slow connections, some get excessively fast to cogent, but fortunatly, even the slow ones tend to be fast enough to not be noticable for webhosting clients.

http://www.prioritycolocation.com/dedicated.shtml order using the regular form at the bottom of the page, mention you're from WHT and the special, even if just "special, WHT" and it'll be processed just fine. :)

one last question, just to verify.

the cpanel you offer for $65 a month, has reseller option --

my client/reseller can set his OWN domains from the panel? this is a must, and I am not familiar with cpanel enough.

at the form page now, waiting for this reply

thank you,

Vic Chisnell

Yes,

We offer CPanel/WHM for $65/mo (instead of the $99/mo retail), and that does have reseller options. You can see it's specifications at www.cpanel.net

Yep, we can accept wire transfer :) I usually don't post that as an option though because around here it costs an arm and a leg :(.
