If so, how's it do? Has it held up well? Any downtime or problems? What type of usage did you put it to...and how did it do?

What brand/type of server set up is it? something like a Appro 1124 Dual AMD 760 MP 1U SCSI Server w/ Tyan S2462UNG M/B & 460W Power Supply?

Wondering how these hold up compared to a dual P3 or P4 Xeon.

Thanks for sharing!!

check out www.anandtech.com, I think they run AMD and they have an article on their setup with comparison.

Back then it blew the Xeons away on db performance.

I have a few AMD duals running our back-end operations, storage, billing, backup, internal websites, etc.

Rock solid for almost a year now with Redhat 7.2.

They are NOT in a rack case though, rather a LARGE Chenbro server case for lots of storage space.

They run HOT, but you know that.

These dualie AMD servers look delicious. How about more info on them?

Their capacity, their average loads for XXX sites etc?
How much ram.

We currently have two Dual AMD Athlon MP servers. One is in complete use with roughly 200 domains give or take, hosted. Another is still in beta testing, as we ensure, that it is stable, and their is no immediately faulty hardware. Here is some short details on both of the Dual Based Athlon Servers.

MSI K7D Master Mother Board
Dual Athlon MP 1900 Proc. Running at 1.6 GHZ each.
Kingston Ecc Registered 3GB Memory.
CI-Design RS2100 2U Case
Dual OCZ Gladiator CPU Fans
36.7GB Cheetah SCSI 36XL Ultra160

The new server under beta testing is same combination as above, except dual athlon 2000, 4gb memory, western digital 7200 rpm IDe w/8mb buffer.

The server in use, has performed like a charm, with load averages under .40, even during peak load. The server has yet to be rebooted, since its life online. It really performs well, never any slow downs at all. If you are interested in building a dual MP based server, email me at admin@vecro.net, I have the hardware list, and pricing information.

I hope I was of some assistance to this thread.

Well, we have been using single Athlon XP chips and they have been holding up admirably. We just received out first dual Athlon MP machine, and so far it seems to be holding up quite nicely with no customers on it. I'll write back in 6 months and let you know how it is doing. :)
