AnmolTech 12-22-2005, 02:52 PM 1) do u pay for your own SSL certificates?
2) if so then how $$?
3) do you use your hosts shared SSL certificate?(is there a problem with doing this)?
Verisign is too expensive
thanks
coppilot 12-22-2005, 03:51 PM I use godaddy.com's. I think it was 58 for 2 years. You can look at mine here. It's all mine and not shared. It's on the right-hand side. John

steven-v 12-22-2005, 04:20 PM GeoTrust Premium SSL is only $94.00/year at www.ev1servers.com with SEAL ($249/year at Geotrust.com)
dawhb 12-22-2005, 05:17 PM we use geotrust. They are fine.
Patrick 12-22-2005, 08:42 PM We use RapidSSL.
Great affordable SSL certifications.

I agree with a comment posted elsewhere: Do customers REALLY look at the certs? I don't believe they do based on conversations I have had.
AnmolTech 12-23-2005, 12:17 PM is there a problem with using the hosts shared SSL certificate?
What is the disadvantage of using this over using your own SSL cert?
Do all SSL certificates have the little gold padlock icon at the bottom right corner of screen while doing transactions???
thanks
harryhood 12-23-2005, 02:25 PM One main disadvantage of using a shared ssl is that url in clients web browser will be different then the url of your web site. For example your web site site might be www.mysite.com, but accessed over a shared ssl it would look something like https://secure.secureserver.com/~mysite/
If you have a dedicated ip and ssl certificate, when accessing the site the url would be https://www.mysite.com.
linksys 12-23-2005, 02:30 PM How much you get paid for referring?
I pay "Nill" for my SSL Cert.
How you say?
My answer is http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=xxxxxx

demowolf 12-23-2005, 03:41 PM If you're going to buy your own SSL cetificate, be sure you have a dedicated IP for your account.... or can at least get one. You need a dedicated IP in order to get your own SSL certificate.
Rob.
Was using godaddy.com in 2004 then in 2005 decided to try RapidSSL, both good and afforable SSL solutions.
whatever 12-23-2005, 10:26 PM I use Geotrust certificates, they're fairly cheap at EV1 servers.
GeoTrust @ www.geocerts.com ($99+)
JasonC0 12-26-2005, 10:33 PM I am buying a cert right now. RapidSSL for $12 per year -- http://www.servertastic.com/store/product.asp?numRecordPosition=1&P_ID=222&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=94.
P Lemon 12-26-2005, 11:04 PM this stuff should be free where are the freeware programers when we need them
niyogi 12-27-2005, 07:54 AM We use InstantSSL.com from Comodo which seem to work just fine.

OpenSSL is free (of use and money) ;)
anything else ?
WarpFactor 12-27-2005, 11:46 AM We've been using GoDaddy and EV1Servers to purchase certificates for our customers and ourselves, but we've recently ran across ModernBill's SSL Factory system which will allow us to seamlessly sell them to our customers through ModernBill.
mrzippy 01-01-2006, 06:42 PM We purchase directly through our reseller account with www.rapidssl.com using their API.
Our pricing is $9.95 for their basic certificate... (we get low pricing because we bought a huge bulk number of them)
Very nice company to purchase from.

Very nice company to purchase from. That seems to be a HUGHE HUGHE HUGHE bulk pruchase. They don't even list that price in their reseller plan (the last time I checked).
Agree with your comment about the company - the best customer service I have ever experienced on the Net.
AnmolTech 01-18-2006, 06:53 PM Can Someone tell me why there is such a huge price difference between serverstatic rapidssl and the other rapidssl website?
Also why the price difference between rapidssl and geotrust?
Is there something i dont know that justifies these price differences?
thanks
AndyGambles 01-19-2006, 01:11 PM We buy the SSL certificates in bulk so get a cheaper price.
Geoturst is considered as a higher value SSL authority and therefore can be used for sites securing higher value SSL transactions.
WWWhost 01-29-2006, 06:45 PM i also like to undestand the price difference from servertastic ($14.95) and rapidssl ($69) So what is the difference here??
I like to purchase an SSL cert. form my support area - no payments or cc card processing only support - so can i use the servertastic SSL cert as:
https://support.mywebsite.com (or https://mywebsite.com/support/) ?
Thanks for advice
jbwebhosting 02-03-2006, 12:08 AM we use rapidssl, they are owned by geotrust (signed by equifax)... the godaddy cert is some sort of chained cert... It's okay, i guess.....
Rapid SSL cert is much better, look at your certification path in the browser using ssl on taylorsnutrition.
Seekaf 02-04-2006, 11:34 PM Thanks for url Jason

You would need to purchase an SSL cert for either https://mywebsite.com OR https://support.mywebsite.com OR Both depending on how you access your site.
The Certificate works on the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) you provide during CSR generation.
Dr_Seus 02-09-2006, 01:32 PM Dont waste your time on any other SSL provider try InstantSSL.com
gavint 02-09-2006, 07:14 PM I'm looking at using Thawte (directly owned by Verisign) for my site's checkout facilities, and possibly to secure our Hosted Exchange offering, but what I'd call "lower quality" SSL certificates to secure things like customer control panels.
To me, Thawte's verification and logo mean a lot when I'm accepting credit card payments, but with service provision there's less of a trust requirement and more a requirement to secure the data transfer (i.e. the nature of SSL means the transfer is secure but it's obvious from what you're doing who you're doing it with, which isn't the case with credit card transactions). I don't think Geotrust are at all recognised in the UK.
kaleshwar 02-09-2006, 10:37 PM ARSSL $35 for one year
availiable from allreseller.com
Festus2005 02-10-2006, 03:31 AM I had a GeoTrust cert for a year and then I bought an COMODO InstantSSL.
The funny thing is that I still had the old "Secured by GeoTrust click to verify" button still on the webpage and it works with the InstantSSL.
I don't run the button on the site, but I have it on a test page and it shows a valid date and when I click, it says valid and that it is a GeoTrust SSL cert. :)
this stuff should be free where are the freeware programers when we need them

I'm confused...
My client wants to take orders through oscommerce cart + emoneris payment module.
As it stands now, I have no idea what brand of ssl to get, because there are so many different price ranges and companies to choose from.
For processing credit card orders on less-then $500 transactions, what do you recommend?
freshjada 03-09-2006, 09:23 AM Anyone here used OpenSSL ? and can provide a short review ? or comparison with other SSL packages ?
cheers

jaxdevil 03-23-2006, 03:44 PM $14.90 for 1 year SSL Certificate / $19 for 1 Year Certificate and Site Shield Combo..

LukeRH 03-27-2006, 05:13 PM Is rapid SSL shared?
jbwebhosting 03-27-2006, 05:50 PM Nope, they are owned by geotrust and directly signed by equifax ;) Good certs!
Shaliza 03-27-2006, 09:06 PM What if someone is using Paypal where customers are not filling out their credit card information on the site? Would a certificate still be needed or not really because Paypal already has one?
johonbravo 03-27-2006, 09:34 PM We use RapidSSL...purchased through EV1SERVERS.
miky4u2 04-07-2006, 05:57 PM We only use RapidSSL and Geotrust Single Root certificates.
We get them from ssldirect.com , the ordering system is the best i've seen, completly automated , certificates are issued instantly and best of all, you can track the orders and resend approver/Authentication emails yourself if for some reasons they get caught by spam filters... which used to be our biggest problem with the EV1 & Geotrust systems.
I also found those discount coupons in an other forum, you just enter them at ordering time to get a discount.
4-RAPIDSSL-D1-4436D716DDFE5 (this one for a 1 year RapidSSL)
4-QUICKSSL-D1-4436D7F346AB6 (this one for a 1 year QuickSSL Premium)
4-VDOMAIN-D1-4436D89E4039D (this one for those new GeoTrust Verified Domain seals)
I'm looking for SSLDirect discount coupons for TrueBusinessID certificates, and for wildecard certificates. I'm aware that they exist . If you come accross any other types of coupons for this site, it would be very appreciated if you could post them here.
Thank you
Miky
Tenzou 04-07-2006, 09:45 PM What if someone is using Paypal where customers are not filling out their credit card information on the site? Would a certificate still be needed or not really because Paypal already has one?
If you're using paypal, specifically paypal web payments standard, then you won't need an SSL cert since they'll be paying on paypal's site, in which they use their own SSL cert. In addition to this, paypal web payments pro option also gives you the option to where you can have customers pay on the secure (SSL) paypal site.
