Hello Everyone,

My company is in the process of developing a new hosting software. This software is being developed for many reasons, 2 of them are:
1) Lack of certain features in current panels
2) Expensive licensing costs for current panels

I would like to know from everyone what they think is important to be in a control panel which the current ones lack. I mean some features ensim has, which plesk doesnt, some features plesk has and ensim doesnt etc.. We want to build this filling in the gaps between current panels.

My suggestion: A heirarchical user structure. A single user should be able to have adminsitrative rights to domains and other users, to an infinite degree.

I've spent a good deal of time researching control panels, and to be quite honest there doesn't seem to be anything out there that is really mature enough to be worth a second look. HSphere comes the closest. I've not been given the opportunity to view Ensim ServerExchange either as it is rather cost preventative for startups such as myself.

Don't mean to offend you, but what exactly do you consider expensive - $200 for an unlimited domain licence for Ensim seems pretty affordable IMO. If you charge less than this do you expect to recoup costs?

I wasnt referring to ensim, i was referring to cpanel/plesk.

Well personally I would really like to see a control panel that supported templating well. Not hacking endless config files, but a simple interface to modify and upload template files. I really like the security of ensim's chrooted directory system and suggest that you make security a priority. Also, DizixCom's ideas sound very interesting.

Would this CP have both an end user as well as a reseller interface?

I could think up a lot for reseller :stickout

Also, I think built-in script would be nice. Good looking (or ability to create/upload own templates) would be a great plus.
