Hi,

I was wondering what is more common/acceptable domain name extension for a personal site. Should the extension be .COM, .NET, .ORG, or .US (where I live). Please give a reason with your response. :)

I was considering .NAME, but it's just weird. The three gTLD's and the American ccTLD appears more appropriate.

Please advice.

Thanks.

i recommend you to use .com because if you open a site with .name your new visitors allways try for com in first. Because new bees users for internet know only .com

.com is the most popular extension. Search engines seem to rank them higher than other domain extensions. After .com, the most popular TLD for search engine optimization are .net and .org .

So, I would recommend .com even though it is just a personal web site. I don't have a .name but from my experience the .infos that I have seem to be not ranked well by search engines.

When ever possible always get the .COM then work your way down to the others like .NET etc.
